Job Description First American's Corporate Information Technology Group (CITG) provides shared technology services to business units of the First American Corporation. These diverse business units are located throughout the United States, and include many international operations. CITG is located in Santa Ana, California and Westlake, Texas. Each location houses of over 200 technology and business professionals who provide technology infrastructure, hosting, network services, application development; application support, project management, desktop services, information and physical security, disaster recovery, and other related services. CITG also maintains two complimentary Technology Centers sites located in Santa Ana, California and Westlake, Texas.The Senior SQL Database Administrator is responsible for the design and support of the database environment including all Quality Assurance, User Acceptance Testing, and Production application regions. In this key role, the SQL DBA relies on an exceptional understanding of Microsoft SQL 2000, 2005, 2008 server, MS.NET application development, database design, security, performance tuning and optimization to exercise solid judgment in choosing the most appropriate approach to solving complex problems. The SQL DBA demonstrates dedication, teamwork, and initiative and a good understanding of supporting application development environments, web hosting using Microsoft IIS, .NET, and SQL server technologies. Specific duties and responsibilities include:ResponsibilitiesOversee responsibilities of Intermediate and Junior DBA’s.Design, implement, and support database environments for Quality Assurance, User Acceptance testing, Stress Testing and Production regions.Proactively monitor SQL server health and performance using state-of-the-art tools and technology to ensure high availability and reliability of the DB application environment.Design and implement all database security to ensure integrity and consistency among the various database regions.Oversee all database code deployments and changes to the database environment to ensure proper change management processes are adhered to and documented.Establish and enforce all DB change management, security standards and best practices.Core CompetenciesMaintains flexibility to accept assignments as deemed necessary to meet Company and department goals. Manages time to optimize effectiveness.Participates in project planning sessions and meetings.Clearly communicates issues and barriers that inhibit your job function.Learns products, processes, technology, and applies that knowledge in a productive methodProposes solutions to dilemmas and issues.Contributes new ideas to the IT processes and procedures.Interacts professionally with various internal and external teams and associates at all levels.QualificationsMUST have Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline such as Computer Science, or an equivalent combination or professional training and experience.MUST have 5 years of stable, progressive experience building and supporting MS SQL server database infrastructures in a large-scale, corporate enterprise level environment with strong SQL server database administration experience.MUST have strong scripting, debugging and tuning experience.MUST demonstrate an exceptional understanding of Microsoft database code troubleshooting practices, development tools and technologies, database clustering technologies and experience with Microsoft Operations Support processes.MUST demonstrate knowledge from experience in business application, production control and change management disciplines.MUST have experience supporting and implementing Disaster Recovery solutions and possess a strong working knowledge of proactive and auto-corrective monitoring practices leveraging third party tools.MUST have a working knowledge of load balancing and SSL technology, and demonstrated proficiency troubleshooting application and database issues.MUST have exceptional verbal and written communications skills, and the ability to effectively and professionally communicate with management, staff and customers as well as demonstrate sound judgment and reasoning skills.MUST have the ability to assess complex situations, set priorities and implement action plans with a business oriented approach and a proactive understanding and ability to manage end user/customer expectations.MUST have exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage and enforce policy and procedure in a large multi-team development environment.MUST be willing and available to provide on-call, 24x7 support as needed.The First American Corporation is an Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
