Cemetery Superintendent

Stewart Enterprises, Inc., the second largest provider of products and services in the death care industry, has an immediate opportunity for a Cemetery Superintendent.

Responsibilities include:Provide leadership of cemetery staff to accomplish goals and objectives within company guidelines. Maintain cemetery grounds and turf. Purchase of maintenance equipment and supplies. Maintain all landscape areas, building, mausoleums, features, road, walls and walks to an acceptable level. Maintain safe working conditions for all personnel and ensure that all employees are knowledgeable of and follow safety regulations. Ensure that all OSHA standards for a cemetery are followed. Responsible for the proper identification of spaces for openings and closings for interment, inurnment or entombment. Assist the Regional Area Director of Operations in budget preparation and maintaining expenditures within the approved budget. Timely completion of all work orders and installation of markers and mausoleum plates or lettering. Evaluate each employee annually and make recommendations to the Regional Area Director of Operations for any compensation adjustments. Ensure that all maintenance personnel are knowledgeable of and comply with company policies. Complete monthly, weekly and daily work schedules for full staff to ensure sufficient use of personnel necessary to accomplish all assigned tasks. Inventories of all merchandise will be maintained in sufficient quantities to meet regular operational needs. Perform any additional duties as requested by the Regional Area Director of Operations.

Qualified candidates will have the following:2 years minimum facilities management experience, preferably in a cemetery. 5 years landscape, grounds, or park maintenance experience Knowledge and experience with lawn and maintenance equipment. General mechanic ability, general use of small hand tools and vehicle maintenance. Experience with creating and adhering to a budget, including cost containment and expense control Ability to handle pressure of daily and weekly deadlines. Must be able to adapt to changing work schedules. Strong organizational and planning skills. Good verbal communication skills Current valid Driver’s License and clean driving record Able to operate proficiently all cemetery equipment. Basic computer literacy and ability to perform arithmetic Ability to complete all work orders and installation of markers, mausoleum plates and or lettering. Ability to lift at least 75 lbs. Ability to comply with OSHA regulations and maintain MSDA book. Must have full knowledge of Safety procedures. Ability to maintain weekly, monthly and quarterly inventory records, safety records and any additional reports.
