Carrier Development Manager
Harte-Hanks Logistics, an industry leader in time-sensitive commodities, has a leadership opportunity in our Carrier Development team in Deerfield Beach, FL for a results oriented logistics professional interested in helping us grow our business. Reporting to the GM/Vice President Operations, the successful candidate must have a proven track record in managing multi-modal transportation spends in excess of $50MM. This role will provide leadership and develop equipment sourcing strategies that drive improvements to KPIs, positions organization for growth, and aligns with business goals/objectives.
Successful candidate will drive business relationships with existing and future equipment providers, through direct involvement. The manager is responsible for the development, execution and deployment of creative sourcing strategies for all logistics requirements including: overland, air freight, ocean freight, small parcels, warehousing, and all other logistics/transportation-related services.
Responsibilities include:
· Directs CD personnel in meeting day to day commitments.
· Coordinate with Business Development and Operations Management to identify equipment resource needs to support current, new or prospective business then develop and drive RFP process.
· Lead the RFP process for the company and use expertise in negotiations to close deals with equipment providers that add strategic value to our service offerings and clients at favorable contract terms.
· Lead LTL contract negotiation strategy development and execution to leverage utilization and rates to support all business segments.
· Drive targeted and proactive searches to identify & qualify equipment providers of any mode (truckload, LTL, air, ocean, small parcels, warehousing, and any other logistics related services) that support current or future client needs and meet/exceed required cost & service levels.
· Develop and implement equipment onboarding strategies.
· Proactively communicate with equipment providers to seek additional targeted resources/services that will drive cost savings, operating efficiency and strengthen relationships.
· Develop continuous improvement actions to improve operating performance and drive cost savings for targeted clients/lanes through alternate carrier deployment/utilizations strategies such as dedicated fleet networks, backhaul carrier networks, continuous moves and PU&D networks.
· Leverage industry experience and relationship building skills to build long term partnerships with equipment providers while driving performance accountability, mitigate/justify any rate increase.
· Collaborates with every level of management as necessary to execute objectives.
· Develop dashboard metrics that highlight department performance
Required Skills:
· Prior leadership role/experience
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
· 10+ years of logistics/transportation purchasing and/or management experience with multi-mode exposure, prior 3PL experience preferred.
· Strong operations background to include logistics provider selection and management, carrier contract statement of work development and RFP/contract bidding processes.
· Working knowledge and experience in carrier operations, carrier performance management, freight payment, premium/expedited freight, and import/export logistics.
· Successful track record/experience negotiating multi-million dollar contracts in TL & LTL markets.
· Excellent communicator capable of effectively articulating complex positions with all levels of an organization in written, oral and presenting to groups.
· Bachelors Degree (Specializing in SCM/Logistics) preferred. Masters preferred.
Additionally, candidates must possess a positive attitude, exercise initiative, be an innovative problem solver and have excellent computer skills, to include proficiency in Excel and Word. Additionally, possess leadership ability, be capable of working independently and in a team environment, manage multiple projects/tasks within deadline driven environment while maintaining an acute attention to detail and have superior organizational & problem solving skills.
