Location: Houston Main Office JOB FUNCTION: Supervises and controls the balancing of banking office cash and clearing accounts. Maintains and monitors relationships with client delivery and market operations managers. Supervises, trains and develops department employees. REGULAR DUTIES: Ensures reconciliation of the banking offices reported cash transactions are reconciled daily to the processed cash transactions and to the general ledger cash account. Monitors reconciling items and outstanding exceptions to ensure they are cleared timely and properly. Ensures instances of missing teller work are identified and researched/resolved timely to help prevent loss to the Bank. Ensures reconciliation of the ATM machines are reconciled daily to the general ledger cash and stamp account. Monitors reconciling items and outstanding exceptions to ensure they are cleared timely and properly. Ensures the certificate of deposit/IRA general ledger clearing account is reconciled daily to all bank-wide deposit and withdrawal activity. Monitors reconciling items and outstanding exceptions to ensure that they are cleared timely and properly. Ensures instances of double deposit posting, incorrect postings and withdrawals not being processed are resolved timely to help prevent loss to the Bank. Works with the Account Services Department to identify any problems at an early stage. Monitors the completion of research requests as they relate to cash, CD/IRAs, cash advance clearing, ATM. Ensures bank personnel submitting the request are responded to timely. Ensures that the bank receives funds for all cash advances processed. Handles retrieval requests and charge backs. Reviews all out-of-balance conditions greater than $1,000, which cannot be reversed to ensure the balancer has properly performed there reconcilement. Notifies banking office, department, retail, and security management of these outages. Thoroughly reviews all outstanding items being charged back to the banking offices to ensure proper research has been performed and detailed explanations of the charge-back are provided to the banking offices. Ensures all necessary internal controls are in place and operating properly. Coordinates with internal auditors to provide required information for periodic examinations. Analyzes and evaluates existing operating procedures, recommends modifications to improve quality and efficiency. Researches and resolves customer related and interdepartmental problems that are in conjunction with the applications reconciled. Identifies problems at an early stage. Interfaces with banking office, operations, and system/development personnel to correct procedural problems. Recommends and ensures implementation of solutions. Responsible for maintaining the workflow/scheduling, employee counseling and performance problems/resolutions, preparation of the annual employee review(s), determine and fulfilling training needs, interviewing and recommending new hires, promotions, demotions, terminations and salary adjustments. All other duties assigned. BASIC QUALIFICATIONSHigh School Diploma or GED2 years bank experience1 year accounting experience1 year supervisory experiencePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS College degree with extensive accounting or equivalent work experience. 3 years lead/supervisory experience. 4+ years experience in bank operations. 4+ years experience in banking office/teller functions. Customer service/contact experience. REQUIRED SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE: Thorough understanding of accounting principles. General understanding of banking and bank operations. Knowledge of teller systems and procedures. Knowledge in operating systems of a bank (safe box, general ledger, DDA, etc.). Knowledge of Research, Adjustment, and Proof/Transit functions. Working knowledge of PC based word processing and spreadsheet software. REQUIRED SKILLS: Strong organizational skills. Ability to effectively manage time. Independent and self motivated. Detail oriented. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Good analytical skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. Excellent customer service skills. Strong problem solving ability. Effective training methodology skills. ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to operate a keyboard Ability to work weekends and holidays as needed to meet departmental goals. Ability to read and interpret a document.
