Account Manager Large (Labor)

General Duties

 

The Account Manager (Large Group - Labor) shall be responsible for retention and growth of profitable membership for an assigned union affiliated book (51+ employees) of business. He/she must demonstrate excellent sales techniques to uncover the prospects’ issues and needs and apply underwriting guidelines to provide a solution to meet those needs.  He/she develops strategies to build positive relationships with employers, brokers, and labor union leadership to maintain and grow profitable membership.  He/she is accountable for meeting monthly productivity goals and fully utilizing systems to maintain extensive records of renewal and relationship building activity. 

 

Qualifications

 

A. Bachelor's degree in business preferred or relevant  business experience in lieu of education required.

B. Minimum five years documented successful corporate sales/service experience, preferably in a service industry and/or selling intangibles. Ability to gather information, determine needs and provide solutions.

 

C. Excellent and established relationships with organized labor necessary. Ability to leverage relationships to facilitate growth.

 

D. Ability to handle multiple projects and priorities and manage time effectively in a fast paced environment.

 

E.  Working knowledge of the health insurance industry or related industry.

 

F.  Proven verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally via the telephone as well as in person.

 

G. Ability to develop collaborative working relationships with brokers,  employers and labor unions/leadership.

 

H. Good public speaking/group presentation skills.

 

I.  Strong pc skills required including  Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and the ability to learn and utilize contact management systems such as Salesforc.com in an effective and efficient manner to document all activity and proposal generation systems such as Firepond. 

J. Ability to assume responsibility and maintain confidentiality.

 

K.  Ability to work overtime and weekends as needed.

L.  Local travel required. Any Independent Health employee who uses a motor vehicle in the course of their duties representing Independent Health must be compliant with New York State Motor Vehicle laws and must follow the Policy that pertains to Driver’s License Requirements as a condition of employment. 

 

M. Understands the importance of maintaining the physical and technical security and privacy of protected health information (PHI).
