AIX Administrator

Our client in North Haven, CT has an immediate full-time opportunity for an AIX Administrator.Responsibilities include: *Monitors network traffic and system health; *Assist in providing computer/network support relating to software and hardware problems reported by users. *Maintain an adequate level of knowledge of operating system and application software being used to provide high levels of support to users. *Install new software applications or hardware on the Lan/Wan, coordinating assistance from third parties when necessary. *Add and maintain users on the network; assigning application access, ensuring security, and maintaining their configurations are within standards. *Assist in gathering bid prices on equipment and supplies as needed. *Provide written document on a monthly basis which defines upcoming needs of network which would require purchase of additional hardware or software. *Assist in installation of workstations and printers on Lan/Wan. *Utilize technology or provide Helpdesk personnel with a fast accurate, and secure method of gaining access to information so they can service the users in the fastest and most efficient manner possible. *Ensure that all AIX/Unix, Microsoft Server 2003, Citrix, VMWARE and other application patches are applied to all servers. Monitor load balance on servers and make recommendations accordingly. *Tests and performs network troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose common network technical problems and upgrades hardware and software components as required recommending and scheduling necessary repairs *Installs and/or assists service personnel in installing and configuring hardware and peripheral components for end-users and provides support to end-users on a variety of LAN/Wan-based applications *Installs and configures approved software packages including operating systems, word processing and spreadsheet programs into company computers *Provides instruction to end-users in use of equipment and software *Provides updates, status and completion information to manager on a timely basis utilizing Problem Request Tracking System, voice-mail, e-mail or in person communications; *Coordinates activities and provides assistance to Help Desk and/or other MIS staff as necessary. *Carry out other such duties as may be assigned or requested. Qualifications: Strong customer service orientation; proficient with installing and troubleshooting a variety of hardware and software applications including operating system and application software, Lan/Wan, printer and computer workstation set-up, AIX/Unix, Microsoft Server 2003, Citrix, VMWARE  and other application patches; working knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices and procedures necessary to performing position responsibilities; able to train others on company computer systems and equipment.
