POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Balm In Gilead is an 18-year old advocacy and faith-based capacity building organization that addresses HIV/AIDS and other health disparities in the African American community and in Africa. With three regional and international offices, this position helps support Corporate Operations in Richmond, VA.
The Balm In Gilead, Inc.â„¢ is a not-for-profit, non-governmental organization whose mission is to improve the health status of people of the African Diaspora by building the capacity of faith communities to address life-threatening diseases, especially HIV/AIDS.
Under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Webmaster will have the responsibility for creating, up-dating and managing the information content and organization of The Balm In Gilead's website as well as design concepts for website development. Will manage the computer server and technical programming aspects of the website. The Webmaster will serve as the lead for The Balm In Gilead's website structural design, navigation and web content. In addition the Webmaster will develop and maintain media and graphics, audio and video, discussion forums and other custom requirements. Serve as the lead to maintain and enhance The Balm In Gilead's website to meet the needs of its users and staff.
The position requires an innovative, detail-oriented and motivated team player to manage and develop our website. This position requires excellent writing and communication abilities, web development and design experience, graphic design and layout skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Prior experience in a not-for-profit organization and an understanding of health care quality-related content is a plus. Must have the ability to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals; be very flexible.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Facilitate content updates, content transfers, layout revisions, scan/crop images, script installation and maintenance, custom graphics create forms.Install and configure applications such as FTP, front page etc.Input and/or facilitate database design and integration.Provide input on and troubleshoot the structural design, navigation and taxonomy of The Balm In Gilead's website.Provide ongoing monitoring of web content and communicate with staff to ensure site is up-to-date.Work closely with The Balm In Gilead's custom software vendors to ensure interoperability of website with NQF database and software systems.Advise senior staff of opportunities for expanded website features and functions, including the impementation of new technologies and trends.Develop and maintain new media and graphics, including streaming audio and video, discussion forums, blogs, etc.Maintain a high level of website customer satisfaction, including fielding calls and questions about the site from members and the general public, conducting periodic user surveys and usability tests and recommending modifications and updates to the site based on user feedback.Track and report Web usage and suggest appropriate changes to promote traffic growth and interactivity.Collaborate with appropriate Communications staff/representatives on the development and implementation of web and email based marketing strategies.Complete reports as required.Assist with othe rprojects and tasks as requested
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Education and Experience:Bachelors Degree, preferably Journalism or Communications, Web Design and/or Programming, Information Systems, Graphic Design or related fields. Minimum three years experience in web development, design and content management. Preferably 2 years of related work experience working with faith-based institutions, community-based organizations, nonprofit organizations, grassroots organizations and/or public agencies desired.Communication Skills: Fluency in written and spoken English required. Correct English usage, grammar, punctuation and vocabulary.
Computer/Office Equipment Skills: Advanced computer skills, advanced knowledge of dreamweaver, agile web development, and multimedia products and programs. Proficiency in Microsoft Office 2007 and SQL Server 2005 is preferred.Other Special Skills: Ability to take oral and written directions, manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities and to be a team player. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse populations, audiences, community groups and religions. Ability to work with minimal supervision and ability to work both collaboratively and independently. Strong project management skills to manage short term projects and manage time effectively. Effective problem solving, interpersonal skills, organizational skills. Effective Experience with the African American faith community a plus. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
