Vocational Counselor
Job Duties:
- Interviews the clients to elicit personal and vocational/educational history information to determine the client's skills, education, aptitudes, abilities, traits, interest, potential and desires.
- Assists the clients with the development of realistic short and long-term vocational goals.
- Utilizes vocational tests and other assessment instruments to help provide information on client's achievements, interests and aptitudes upon which vocational goals and rehabilitation plans are based.
- Actively participates as a member of the clients treatment team.
- Endeavors to ensure that there are built-in safeguards that will reinforce the client toward the successful completion of the plan and the capability of dealing with failure.
- Assists the client in basic human development and emphasizes the importance of the client's contributions to his success.
- Exposes the client to the occupational, educational and vocational opportunities available.
- Supports and compliments the comprehensive treatment program by developing client's adaptability to the work sector.
- Appraises the job market for trends and availability as it relates to the client's employment probability and reviews the findings with both staff and clients ensuring treatment and rehabilitation is not based upon misconceptions and ill-conceived expectancies of the availability of work and/or training.
- When a client is "job-ready", conducts a job search utilizing files developed from contact with employers, state employment offices and other such agency sources.
- Assists the client in identifying suitable job listings.
- Provides information to the client on available jobs indicating wage scales, hours required and other job specifications.
Requirements:
- EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Prefer CRC (Certified Rehabilitation Counselor). Will consider Master's degree (M.A.) in Vocational Counseling and 5 years vocational counseling experience in a rehabilitation program.
