Server Administrator II - 601BR
Job Description: Responsible for support, maintenance, and security of corporate servers and applications.
Server Configuration and Maintenance: Primary point of contact for at least one corporate server/service including the installation, maintenance and administration of the server. Helps to evaluate, install and maintain overall corporate server configurations, including network operating systems and client software, email servers and client, and standard server applications. Creates and documents server and client configurations. Monitors and administers upgrades and patches to ensure timely software and security updates. Maintains and ensures proper licenses and support agreements are in place. Assists in diagnosing and solving complex operating system, network and application problems within corporate environment as second-level support; trains HelpDesk staff on new server-related technology and initiatives. Works with senior-level administrators to maintain Storage Area Network data store.
Server Backup and Restore: Ensures the integrity and reliability of servers and services. Helps to evaluate, configure, test and maintain corporate server backup system to ensure integrity and reliability. Monitors software and hardware updates and remains current with new and evolving technologies in the backup environment. Tests and confirms backup tapes to ensure data integrity on a periodic basis. Works with network/SAN based backup software, LTO tape-drive, and jukebox technology.
Network Applications: Helps to evaluate, configure, test and maintain corporate network applications including directory services (eDirectory, ADS), email, desktop management, database, and web services. Ensures compatibility, reliability and efficacy of applications within a complex network environment.
Server Security: Assists in providing security solutions to ensure a secured computing environment. Tools include software distribution system and anti-virus software. Helps to implement and execute corporate-wide anti-virus plan, updates server virus definition files through automated means on regular basis or as needed. Monitors industry virus and security sources to identify and communicate information about viruses, worms, security vulnerabilities, etc.
Additional Responsibilities: Help to design, develop, and support corporate network printers and special purpose servers including Verity, SIRSI, payroll, accounting, etimecard, etc. Builds and maintains databases to house server information. Develops and maintains documentation of all responsibilities. Maintains and administers service and maintenance contracts for areas of responsibilities.
Project Management: Works with management and other team members, and end-users to determine goals and directions; leads projects that are medium-level complexity; prepares cost estimates and staff requirements for proposed projects to accomplish goals; monitors and reports on tasks throughout the project; guides and reviews other project work when necessary.
Experience Required: Minimum of 6 years of experience in administering server operating systems and related technology.
Skills: Technical Skills - expertise in Novell NetWare, Windows NT/2000, directory design (eDirectory and ADS), SAN, backup hardware, and network printing. Application experience and expertise in corporate email system (GroupWise), desktop management systems (ZenWorks), database administration, web services, and backup software. Strong skills in network technology (TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, etc.). Good understanding and practical application of Windows Scripting, database design and basic programming skills. Project Management Skills - ability to work collaboratively with other team members, and to lead a technical team on mid-level projects producing quality work; strong interpersonal skills are required for interfacing with department members, internal customers, and vendor representatives; good information organization; ability to write clear, concise, and accurate documentation and provide training. Also, must have demonstrated initiative; excellent customer service skills; willingness to work and stay current with new technologies; excellent oral and written communications skills.
Other: Ability to lift 30 lbs. (e.g. computer, server and AV equipment), ability to walk (to end user stations) and bend (to install and connect equipment); must be willing and able to perform on-call and overtime work when required for system maintenance and repair; must have Active secret security clearance.

Degree Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering or related field. Advanced degree and industry certifications (MCP, MCSE, CNA, etc.) a plus.
