Senior Service Engineering Lead

Summary:The American Red Cross is seeking an experienced Engineering Lead to support enterprise-class systems in our National Headquarters data center facilities. Qualified candidates will have the opportunity to work with a variety of sought-after technologies, expand areas of competence and build key responsibilities. Candidate will be responsible for the planning, engineering and implementation of the enterprise class Sun, IBM and HP based servers running Solaris, AIX and Windows operating systems, Microsoft Exchange email, Microsoft SQL/Oracle databases, and EMC Tier-1 and HP Tier-2 storage infrastructure for Red Cross. Candidate will ensure the development and maintenance of engineering methodologies, project planning, resource planning as well as internal and external service level agreements. Participates in tactical operational planning, budget preparation, and the development of contingency operation plans. Major Responsibilities:Provide strategic and tactical designs for enterprise-wide server and storage infrastructure. Participate in both strategic and tactical planning for Redcross enterprise infrastructure. General understanding of network technology, security concepts and interface with network and security teams. Engineers and deploys approved Redcross system designs utilizing generally accepted system life cycle methodology and best practices. Manage multiple system engineering projects to include project planning, budget estimates and resource allocation.Stay abreast of new technology as it pertains to enterprise infrastructure and recommends and/or plans for system changes, upgrades, and improvements.Develop system performance metrics in order to monitor system components.Design, engineer, and recommend changes to system architecture to accommodate technology upgrades, performance problems/issues. Ensure that systems engineering methodology documentation is developed, maintained, and updated. Interface with multiple IT departments to include all management levels within Redcross. Develop briefings, presentations, and information papers as required. Manage vendor and contractor relationships.Participate in vendor selections, contract negotiations, and technical evaluations. Participate in the budgeting process. Develop disaster recovery operation plans and participates in the execution. Minimum Qualifications:Bachelors degree in Information Systems or related discipline preferred. A minimum of 10 years relevant experience, especially in planning, designing and engineering of systems, enterprise email, enterprise Storage and Infrastructure. Broad knowledge of various technology architectures and business platforms. Technology smart with a welcome ability to analyze and provide leadership across a wide breadth of technical subject matters. Must be able to define non-functional requirements such as availability, scalability, maintainability, reusability requirements on each project. Must be able to review vendor statements of work (SoW) and provide valuable feed back to the organization. Previous experience working in an outsourced environment and formal Continuous Improvement experience (e.g. ITIL, COBIT, Six Sigma) is preferred
