Research Assistant, Operations Research

Essential Responsibilities

• Provide administrative and logistical support to the Director, Operations Research and Unit staff.
• Research and prepare relevant materials for internal and external meetings with staff, sponsors, U.S. Government donors, potential donors, and other key groups or individuals.
• Schedule and coordinate meetings and conference calls; participate and/or take notes, on a routine basis.
• Assist with travel arrangements and expense reporting for the Director and other unit staff.
• Prepare and/or finalize PowerPoint presentations and related materials for unit staff, as requested.
• Provide support to all stages of proposal development efforts including managing/tracking and formatting documents, editing and assisting with on-line and paper submissions.
• Assists with coordination of Human Subjects and IRB issues and maintenance of regulatory documentation in collaboration with Directors of Clinical and Basic Research and Operations Research and Unit Research Officers.
• Assist with the administration of operations research grants, including liaisons with financial staff for budget and contract negotiation.
• Assists Unit staff in organizing grant reviews, assigning all incoming applications for peer-review, tracking the review progress, and generation of approval or denial letters.
• Work with Director, Operations Research to prepare periodic department reports to Board of Directors.
• Assists the Unit Directors and Research Officers with the organization of OR think tanks, workshops, and research trainings.
• Tracks and maintains records of the progress of Foundation awardees in the peer-reviewed literature and presentation at scientific meetings.
• Support efforts to develop research summaries across country programs and maintain database of pending, ongoing, and completed Foundation research.
• Maintain contact information list for relevant individuals/organizations, including funders, subgrantees, partners, USG representatives, etc.
• Contribute to new and ongoing projects as requested.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Minimum 1-2 years experience in research or with research grants.
• Familiarity and interest in Public Health, HIV, or research preferred.
• Strong and demonstrable proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access.
• Ability to travel internationally to the Foundation’s sites, primarily in Africa.
• French or Portuguese competency is a plus.

• Strong organizational skills, with ability to prioritize, take initiative and follow-through.
• Ability to interact effectively with all levels of management and efficiently provide support and assistance to co-workers.
• Proven ability to work effectively as member of dynamic team in fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated ability to work well independently under time pressure, prioritize and multi-task effectively.
