Program Assistant
Position Description To organize and provide state superintendents and commissioners, state education staff, federal agencies, professional organizations, and schools with critical information on the condition of K-12 education. The Program Assistant will be assigned to several projects in the area of State Education Indicators and Accountability. The Program Assistant will work with other staff on the Indicators projects, and teamwork and cooperation will be expected. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional problem solving and customer service skills. We seek someone with strong knowledge and skills in the areas of data collection/management, data graphics, editing, web-based surveys and reporting, as well as knowledge of state education policy. The Program Assistant reports to the Director of Education Indicators. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in education, business, or social science field. Graduate work in statistics, social sciences, or education policy desired. Two to three years of related experience Detail-oriented, highly developed organizational skills Interest in working with K-12 educational issues Understanding of basic statistical analysis Knowledge of state requirements under Title I of the No Child Left Behind Act. Experience managing multiple databases for different audiences Software experience: Proficiency with MS Office Suite including MS Word, Excel, and Access. Experience with web page software, Adobe Page Maker and Illustrator desired. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in communicating with staff, members, and outside contacts at all levels Ability to work in a team environment while demonstrating the ability to solve problems independently Ability to organize time effectively, work under pressure, appropriately set priorities, and meet deadlines. Responsibilities Support web site and database focused on state accountability systems and cross-state analysis of elements of accountability, including communication with state education staff and requests for information Assist in developing agenda, conducting issues research, and provide planning support for state accountability collaborative meetings  Analyze data and assist with writing, research, and editing for the organization papers and reports focusing on key issues and state-level statistics related to education indicators and accountability. Disseminate information useful to state education leaders and staff, U.S. Congress, federal agencies, and professional education and research organizations. Provide assistance for related projects and activities within the organization, States, and partner organizations. Occasional travel required Acsys. Inc. is an equal opportunity employer.
