Head of UN Advocacy Office, New York
Oxfam International (OI) is a confederation of 13 organisations working together with over 3000 partners in more than 100 countries to find lasting solutions to poverty and injustice. The OI Secretariat is based in Oxford, with advocacy offices in Washington DC,New York, Brussels and Geneva.
You will develop, implement and lead a wide range of advocacy strategies to influence the United Nations in support of our humanitarian campaigning, while ensuring the efficient, effective management of our New York office. This will involve lobbying and maintaining good relationships with UN officials and national missions, representing Oxfam at consultation meetings and conferences, and facilitating high levels of internal collaboration on UN humanitarian advocacy as well as humanitarian emergencies. You will also implement media strategies,give interviews and may write a wide range of briefing papers, articles and speeches.
An experienced advocate and general manager, your advanced knowledge of humanitarian policy issues and the UN system will allow you to analyse related issues and develop policy, as well as provide strategic guidance on how to influence the UN. Your wide experience of developing and implementing all aspects of advocacy strategies, which have major impact at the highest level, will include effective representation of issues and institutions to a wide range of parties as well as direct lobbying. An excellent communicator,with strong interpersonal, project and people management skills, you will be culturally sensitive and comfortable with all aspects of managing a small team and working with others at a distance.
Fluency in English is required. Competence in French and/or Spanish is desirable.
