Director of Homeless Services

OUTCOMES

This position is responsible for all aspects of the homeless services programs including: program development and over site, staffing, client services, budget compliance, and community networking.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITESThe program is continually upgraded based on client and community needs and feedbackAssures all grant requirements are met and agency policies are followedAll staff in the program are hired, trained, scheduled, disciplined and commended Assures services provided to clients meet standards of a quality programSpending is monitored to assure the program stays within its budgetNetworking within the community to find partners and referral services for the program is continually completedReports are given to the agency director, Advisory Council, and the Department of Human Services.Other tasks as assigned by the Director.

 

EDUCATION

Master’s Degree required, preferably MSW but other human service field will be considered

 

EXPERIENCE

  This position requires three years of experience working in the field of homelessness including working directly with clients.  Must have a wide knowledge of available services in the Chicago area and experience with a variety of agencies in the field.  Three years of supervisory experience is also required. 

 

COMPENTENCIES

A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible in light of changing job situations/priorities

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position is required to do strenuous physical work.  In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required lift 50+ pounds, climb stairs, bend, twist, carry, sit and stand for extended time periods.  The work environment for this position includes an environment with a high noise level. Must be able to work in all types of weather elements including severe conditions.

Must be able to work with clients that have poor social skills, suffer from mental illness and have substance abuse problems
