The after-school program operates M-F, 2:3-6 pm daily, with extended hours on 20 weekdays when school is not in session. Duties include program scheduling; curriculum development; coordinating outreach to parents and community; coordinating participant registration; record-keeping and report-writing; administration of site-based office, with a full-time assistant; hiring, supervision and training of a diverse, part-time staff of 13 employees; ensuring compliance with regulations of the NYC Department of Health and other city/state agencies; and liaison with program funders, evaluators, and partner organizations. The program director reports to the executive director of New Settlement and works closely with the school leadership and staff on issues key to the success of the program.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW: The after-school program is designed to strengthen the social, emotional and academic competencies of the participants, integrating literacy skill-building through a positive youth-development model. Regular program components include homework help, fitness and recreation, performing and visual arts, interactive reading, math and science activities, community service, healthy-living skills, and trips to educational, cultural and recreational sites in NYC. The program is located at a public elementary school serving the southwest Bronx (a few blocks from New Settlement’s own community activity spaces and administrative offices). The student population of CES 88 is approximately 65% Latina/o and 35% Black, mostly from families of low and very-low income.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION & SKILLS REQUIRED: Minimum two years of supervisory experience in relevant setting. MSW, MEd or other relevant advanced degree. English/Spanish bilingual skills preferred.  Experience in community-based youth development, elementary education and/or social work, with a focus on youth and families.
