Behavioral Specialist

San Gabriel Children's Center (SGCC) Inc., has openings for Behavioral Specialist.  SGCC is a Non-Profit Corporation serving Southern California with a capacity of 36 resident boys between the ages of 7 and 17 with level-14 group homes. SGCC provides residential care and structured therapeutic support to resident boys.  SGCC also provides outpatient services to children and their families in the surrounding community.

 

Summary: This position works directly with children, providing normalizing and supportive interactions and activities.

 

Responsibilities:

· Providing services in accordance with the child’s weekly schedule of therapeutic, skill-development, and adjunctive activities set forth in the Child’s treatment plan and operationalized by the treatment team and responsible clinician.

· Assisting in development and refinement implementation of individualized treatment and service plans.

· Documents in an accurate and timely fashion all services that are reimbursable through EPSDT funding.

· Proactively ensuring that any type of intervention utilized is in accordance with the agency’s policies and treatment philosophy that seeks to create a supportive, nurturing, and appropriately challenging interpersonal environment.

· Working within scope of practice.

·Working directly with children, engaging in such activities as coaching, modeling, limit-setting, and reinforcing constructive interactions

·Performing appropriate routines and presenting and overseeing the clients’ performance of a wide variety of developmentally appropriate tasks and activities of daily living.

· Operating vehicles to transport children for activity, complies with all safety standards, laws, and agency policies when operating a vehicle.

· Attending all scheduled supervision and treatment team meetings to develop, review, and implement Treatment and Service Plans and observes and identifies milestones and obstacles.  Monitors all aspects of the child’s program including privileges, recognition, safety limitation, discipline and treatment philosophy, and reviews these with the appropriate team for medical and service necessity.

· Assuming other tasks as assigned by the Assistant Director.

 

Requirements:

· Possess an earned baccalaureate degree in a behavioral science field or the educational equivalent of an AA degree and at least six years of work experience in a mental health treatment setting or in a school setting working with SED children or adolescents.

· Maintain a valid driver’s license and provide proof of insurance if transporting clients/families. Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.

· Obtain, within 30 days of employment, Red Cross CPR, Professional Assault Response Training-R (“PART”), and First Aid Certification and maintain such certification current through the term of employment with SGCC.  Staff may also be required to obtain and maintain Water Safety Certification depending on program needs.
