We are currently seeking an Assistant Vice President of Major Gifts / Planned Giving who will create a comprehensive program to secure planned and major gifts to support annual operations and endowment.  The position will develop and implement strategies for identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individual donors and prospects, and will play an integral role in the overall strategic plan for fundraising/development activities.  The position will also supervise the Foundation Relations/ Grants/Special Groups Department to ensure revenue goals are achieved.

 

RESPONSIBILITIESIn collaboration with Vice President, Development & Marketing, develop comprehensive planned and major gift program in support of organization goals and objectives Determine and execute strategies to achieve revenue targets Identify major/planned gift prospects and donors and initiate appropriate contact. Work collaboratively with colleagues, Board and volunteers to identify new prospects and opportunities for major gifts.Develop appropriate cultivation strategies for prospects and donors and move in appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure.Personally solicit and develop strategies for solicitation by Board/CEO for major/planned giftsMaintain stewardship contacts with major gift/planned gift donors Work with Regional Directors to identify, solicit and cultivate major gift donors in each geographic region. Review and refine membership criteria and benefits for Gold Medal Circle and develop a consistent program and communications strategy Develop marketing and solicitation programs and materials to renew and upgrade major gift donors as well as increase the number of first-time major gift donors. Establish strategies to re-solicit lapsed major gift donors.Prepare proposals, solicitation letters and acknowledgmentsPlan and oversee events and receptions to cultivate prospect and acknowledge major donorsPrepare donor proposals and reports and provide call/activity reports on all activitiesDevelop and manage Major Gifts and Planned Giving budget; ensure financial viability by managing costs centers under direct control.Oversee and manage Foundation Relations Department and ensure that funding through grants and special groups (i.e. Civic & Association) meets budgeted goals.Participates as a Member of the Management Council.

 EXPERIENCE and EDUCATION:3-5 years progressive experience in individual major and planned gifts with proven track record in building a $2 -$10M major gift portfolio preferred or comparable experienceExcellent communication and interpersonal skills in managing relationships with high-level donorsSuperior written and oral communication skills, experience in public speaking, business writing and formal presentationsCurrent understanding of tax/legal implications, including IRS regulations, governing planned and major gifts.Demonstrated ability to manage multiple conflicting deadlines and maintain disciplined adherence to program goals. Ability to maintain positive relationship with colleagues and external constituents.Poise, initiative and flexibility; ability to address complex situations and sensitivity to handle confidential information with personal and professional integrityExperience with donor database required; thorough understanding of information management and demonstrated competence with database systems (Blackbaud/Raiser’s Edge preferred), as well as competence in Internet research.Bachelor’s degree required, CFRE or advance degree preferredProficiency in using computers and software, including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, WordWillingness to travel and to work occasional evenings and weekends to meet job requirements
