AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Background:

Mount Hope’s mission is to revitalize the communities served byproviding safe, decent, affordable housing, economic development, youth, humanand educational services.  For 22 years, the Mount Hope HousingCompany has been the major catalytic force and innovator in the realm ofcommunity development by transforming the Bronx into a revitalized andstabilized community, creating affordable housing and stimulating commercialrevitalization and enhancing job creation. MountHope’s programs are expanding as weinstitutionalize with the creation of the new Mount Hope Community Center.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  To work within an after school learning center for grade school youth, ages 6-12 years.

  Design educational, recreational and cultural activities within a youth development model. 

  Develop and execute daily lesson plans to stimulate children’s cognitive, motor and social skills. 

  Prepare students for standardized city wide tests, daily homework assistance and special school projects.

  Supervise children throughout daily activities, trips and insure safety/comfort of children.

  Assist Program Director in the planning and implementation of school year and summer day camp program activities.

  Interface with parents in assessing the educational, social, emotional, and physical needs of their children.

 

Skills and Qualifications: Minimum requirement: Associates Degree in Child Education

  Bachelors Degree preferred (or equivalent work experience).

  Completed course work in child development, curriculum development and lesson planning for school aged youth.

  Minimum three (3) years proven work experience planning and executing program activities for elementary school-age children.

  Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus. NYS School –Age Care credentials preferred.  First-Aid, C.P.R. RTE certification preferred.

  Must be available to work part-time, Mondays through Fridays, 3--6 pm.
