Sims Metal Management (SMM), the world’s leading metal recycling company, has an immediate opening for an experienced Environmental, Health & Safety Manager in the Central Region (Illinois, Indiana). Job Duties - Safety & Health:
•Collaborate on a scheduled basis with yard managers in appraising the performance of the yards, reviewing yard accident/incidents, and develop recommendations and action to be taken by the respective yard concerning Safety & Health.
•Conduct monthly inspections of facilities to ensure compliance with policy and procedures.
•Assist in developing and implementing regional policy & procedures which meet corporate goals.
•Assist yards in implementing corporate and regional specific Safety & Health initiatives.
•Periodically conduct safety conversations with employees as well as line management to ensure the consistent use and quality of the safety program.
•Participate in the development and implementation of training programs in compliance with OSHA regulations and recognized health hazards.
•Assist in the investigation of accidents and incidents.
Job Duties - Environmental:
•Working with vendors, contractors and our engineers during the design phase, construction phase, start-up and the continued operation of the new system(s).
•Ensure that all environmental rules, regulations, testing requirements, operational issues and reporting requirements required are handled in a manner consistent with SMM policies and conform to governmental rules and regulations.
•Conduct periodic inspections of environmental issues to assure compliance and uncover potential problems.
•Assist facility operators in developing the most expeditious means of correcting environmental issues.
•Assist in the interaction with various State, Federal and Local environmental agencies.
•Assist in all phases of pollution prevention/reduction projects.
•Assist in permit renewal processes.
Experience/Requirements:
Bachelors degree in related field (environmental engineering, industrial hygiene, industrial safety) or a minimum of 2-3 years of industrial environmental, health & safety supervisory experience is required.
