Summary:
Provide leadership in the design, development and implementation of cost effective packaging for all ArthroCare Product Lines. Work with approved suppliers to improve and optimize packaging design and processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to: (Other duties may be assigned)
Design, develop, lead and implement packaging for products from all business units and participate in product development teams. New designs must meet ArthroCare product design requirements including labeling and sterilization. Work with suppliers on existing products to optimize packaging design and processes, document and validate changes under ArthroCare quality system.Recommend to engineering and material departments new technologies, materials, and vendors for packaging requirements. Provide leadership by aligning all packaging activity to the Companys priorities and be the focal point in implementing changes to eliminate packaging related failures. Work directly with R&D engineers and Product Managers to develop new packaging designs that are cost effective and still meet aggressive time line requirements.Attend technical reviews with CTO and development teams to advise on effective packaging solutions.Take ownership in all aspects of packaging design, processes, field issues, supplier communication, packaging validation, and labeling of packaged products.Coordinate implementation and procurement of new packaging materials in our manufacturing facility.Work with QA and Regulatory staff to assure cost effective sterilization by optimizing packaging dimensions.Write validation and other test protocols for approval of new packaging materials and designs, including: seal validation, transit and aging validations.Implement and monitor proper packaging test requirements to meet appropriate standard requirements that will provide products to our customers without any shipping damage.Evaluate, recommend and implement process improvements for packaging methods, including automation and/ or material handling improvements with lean manufacturing principles in our manufacturing facilitiesMay work on other projects as assigned by the supervisor. This may require understanding the general scope of work and create detail action plan and implement action items. Provide regular status reports on packaging development projects and process improvement activities
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education and/or Experience:B.S. Packaging, Mechanical Engineering, Bio-Engineering, Physics, Chem., or equivalent. Requires a minimum of 4 years of experience in a medical products manufacturing environment.At least 4 years of experience in packaging design for a medical device company.Requires good written and verbal communication skills. Needs to be able to apprehend and solve multiple problems with a coherent logical approach. Knowledge of PCs MS-Word, Excel, Project, are also required. Solidworks CAD background a plus
Other Qualifications: Technical skills involving design, assembly and test of packaging materials and other industrial processes, including but not limited to: thermoformed trays, Tyvek lidstock, pouches, foam cushioning, folding cartons and corrugated boxes. Background with ASTM D4169 and ASTM F1980 required.
