ZOLL Circulation, a wholly owned subsidiary of ZOLL Medical Corporation, is a commercial-stage 53-employee medical device company located in the heart of Silicon Valley, California. We market the AutoPulse resuscitation system, a medical device that helps rescuers resuscitate victims of sudden cardiac arrest. The AutoPulse provides consistent chest compressions with significantly greater blood flow than manual CPR. When used quickly after arrest along with defibrillation and ventilation, the AutoPulse increased patient survival over 200%. We have continued aggressive AutoPulse technology development, with significant product features in the pipeline which will further increase its already significant clinical performance.

 ZOLL Circulation is also developing a proprietary endovascular therapeutic hypothermia system for treatment of a variety of neurological, cardiovascular and renal indications, including cardiac arrest, fever management, radio contrast nephropathy and acute myocardial infarction. Abundant basic and clinical research has established hypothermia as a potent protector of tissues at risk from ischemic-reperfusion injury. Adoption and clinical use of hypothermia is small but rapidly accelerating, driven by an increase in clinical results and adoption by key medical associations which are recommending therapeutic hypothermia as a standard of care. Our catheter-based system is the only technology that can rapidly cool patients in a matter of minutes, providing clinicians with the most powerful and accurate therapeutic hypothermia solution for improving clinical and economic outcomes. In the second half of 2009, we plan to market our system in the United States and Europe to deliver rapid, safe, easy to use patient cooling.

Senior Biomedical Engineer / Research Engineer

Job Description

As a valued member of our ZOLL Circulation Research and Development team, this individual should have a PhD in biomedical engineering or equivalent combination of academic work and experience. Candidates must have an excellent familiarity with medical technology and equipment, systems physiology, pre-clinical research, and have the ability to independently conduct multiple research programs with key opinion leaders around the world. Candidates must be able to significantly contribute to the product design & development process.

 

Required Skills

To qualify for this position, this individual must have a MS degree in Biomedical Engineering with 7 - 10 years experience (PH.D preferred) in addition to:

· Experience in industry-based biomedical research, experimental hemodynamics, ischemia-reperfusion injury research, endovascular or electro-mechanical medical devices is preferred.

· Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills

· Working knowledge of regulatory issues applicable to medical device including ISO 9000 and FDA Design Controls is required.
