Mechanical Designer

This position will participate in the design, development, launch and maintenance of products by providing conceptual sketches, prototypes, designs and dimensional drawings for products and components.  Support will be focused on but not limited to the generation of mechanical drawings, solid models, prototype components, manufacturing processes, component selection,assembly drawings and Bills of Material. 

1. Provide direct support for engineering personnel regarding the creation of assemblies and the development of components for new products and prototypes.

2. Create drawings, documents, and Bills of Material which meet ANSI drawings standards and are manufacturable by current manufacturing standards and practices.

3. Understand and apply the principals of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances.

4. Responsible to keep abreast of the latest trends and technologies in the field of engineering graphics and be proficient in the Solidworks design package.  Posses experience in DFMA and prototyping and product processes.

5. Establish, schedule and manage activities related to the efforts under their immediate control, and provide feedback to supervisors, team mates and other members of management on a timely basis.

6. Maintain the ability to work in cross functional teams with minimal supervision while completing tasks assigned by engineers, project engineers, program managers, etc.

7. Work closely with manufacturing personnel during the development of new products and components, and act as a liaison between outside manufacturers and company engineering.

8. Be generally familiar with a variety of existing design components, measuring devices, material, etc., such that efficiency in development can be maintained (Don’t reinvent the wheel).

9. Works within the confines of the established engineering and document control policies and procedures to provide work output.

10.  Revise drawings, documents and BOM’s for existing products as required.

Also Required:

5 years or more experience in the creation of mechanical assemblies, drawings and Bills of Material, with an Associates Degree in technology preferred.  Ability to produce engineering models and components using Solidworks solid modeling software.  Familiarity of the latest rapid prototype tools and methods as well as production tooling and methods.  Strong spatial relations aptitude required.
