Field Clinical Engineer I: Role and Expectations Basic FCE Role: Manage pre-market (IDE) and post-market research in territory and interact with FCEs and other departments or divisions to positively impact research, sales, products, and processes. v Summary:v Working under general supervision, is primarily responsible for field support of Clinical Research, accurate technical service/troubleshooting, collaborating with Sales representatives to develop business in the local territory, providing general Field Image Representation for St. Jude Medical and Field support to other departments, and serving as a technical conduit between customers and CRMD. Expectations:v Works under general guidance and supervisionv Fully competent in study and territory managementv Initiates and coordinates activities in the fieldv Engages with FCE and cross-functional teamsv Speaker/trainer, developer of training materials and technical memosv Manages engineering/clinical tasks/projects of moderate complexityv Mentors less experienced FCEs and field personnelv Collaborates with sales management and partners where the FCE presence can produce maximum benefits v Requirements/Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Biological Sciences, a related field, or equivalent. Typically a minimum of four plus years of progressively more responsible relevant clinical work experience in cardiology, electro-physiology, or working with implantable ICD’s, pacemakers, or cardiac electro-physiology procedures. Must have demonstrated personal computer skills and be able to perform word processing/spreadsheet tasks to perform documentation, presentation, and analysis activities. Requires the ability to converse effectively with all levels of employees, management, and customers. Must be able to handle multiple assignments. Must be able to perform in a diverse cross-functional team environment. Documented record of delivering research information which adds value to management’s decision making process. Demonstrated ability to understand and comply with applicable U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations and Company operating procedures, processes, policies, and tasks. Evaluation, originality, and/or ingenuity required. v Desired Requirements: An advanced credential in a relevant discipline/concentration. Professional Health Science certification or designation. Associate Field Clinical Engineer: Role and Expectations Role: Learn basic FCE role (see below) and advance to the point of independently functioning as an FCE in a territory. Expectations:v Requires essential training and mentoring and essential guidance and supervisionv Mentored from start to higher level of competencyv Works under essential and direct guidance and supervisionv Develops competency in study and territory managementv Engages with the sales team in functions appropriate for a new FCEv Gains exposure to other departments and FCE functions outside the territory v Requirements/Education: BS degree in Engineering, Biological Sciences, a related field, or equivalent. Requires the demonstrated ability to analyze and evaluate technologically complex devices; demonstrated written and verbal communication, interpersonal, facilitation, presentation, quantitative, analytical, organizational, multi-task, and follow-up skills, the ability to meet deadlines as well as the ability to converse effectively with all levels of employees, management and customers. Must be able to meet deadlines on multiple projects/assignments. Must also be able to establish/maintain good working relationships and be able to work cooperatively/productively with customers, physicians, hospital administrators, government agencies, medical groups, sales representatives, and other Field Clinical Engineers is required. Demonstrated ability to understand and comply with applicable U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) regulations and Company operating procedures, processes, policies, and tasks. Demonstrated personal computer skills including spreadsheet, word processing database management, and specialized applications. Evaluation, originality, and/or ingenuity required.
