RESPONSIBILITIES: ·  Manage the entire patent area for ev3 and provide work direction to department administrative personnel as it applies to patent law.  ·  Responsible for prosecution through litigation as is it relates to all ev3 patents (new and existing products).  ·  Responsible for learning ev3 technology and processes, which include interfacing extensively with Engineering and Marketing to thoroughly understand strategic direction.  ·  Responsible for being present at Patent Review Board meetings and will manage outside counsel to work across all ev3 franchises.  ·  Assists in patent budget development and is responsible for managing this budget on an ongoing basis. ·  Comply with applicable FDA and international regulatory laws/standards and the ev3 Code of Conduct. ·  Other duties as assigned or required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education:  ·  Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in an Engineering . ·  A Juris Doctorate is required.  · Registration to practice before the Patent Office is required.   Experience: ·  The ideal candidate for the Chief Patent Counsel position at ev3 will have a minimum of 10 years of experience as a Patent Attorney. This experience in intellectual property will include preparation and prosecution of patent applications, negotiation of technology transfer and license agreements, and counseling of business units on intellectual property issues and infringement litigation.  ·  3-4 years of this experience will ideally be in-house with a medical device manufacturer or within a fast-paced high-tech manufacturing environment.  ·  Experience within a law firm would be acceptable, provided the candidate has significant exposure to entrepreneurial environments.
