This could include work in support of Product Change Management and/or New Product Introduction activitiesUse ProEngineer as an engineering tool in the layout, modeling, and analysis of engines, engine sub-systems, engine component and assembliesPerform form, fit and function studies or DVA's t insure quality designs that meet all design requirements and space constraintsPerform static and kinematic machine design calculations as appropriatePerform design analysis using FEA tools such as ProMechanicaPrepare technical data and complete documentation of workWrite engineering releases at different phase codes that adhere to product definition standards and guidelinesMake supplier, OEM, and end-user customer visits as appropriate to support design activitiesWork closely with manufacturing and suppliers to achieve producible, quality designs at the lowest possible costParticipate in the upgrading and creation of Design StandardsDevelop and manage to Individual Work and Development Plans in conjunction with supervisor and/or Work Team LeaderLead design reviews, FMEA, DQR, and C. of C. work per proceduresGive leadership and support to subsequent activities in Drafting and other Product Definition functionsSupport current product PCR design work SKILLS: FUNCTIONAL/TECHNICAL:3-5 years design experience preferredProficiency in Pro/E, Mechanica and other computer aided design and analysis tools as appropriateCapability to understand and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5M-1994Must have excellent verbal and written communication skillsDesign for Six Sigma Green Belt Certification or experience is desiredTQS & VPI experience desiredFamiliarity with marine applications desiredExperience with cooling system design desiredSKILLS: QUALITY/IMPROVEMENT:The designer will be required to understand and to follow Cummins standard work procedures, and to undertake Design Reviews, DFMEA's, and Cummins Technical Report completion after such reviewsSupport FIRG and concept engine assembly buildsSKILLS: TEAMWORK:Must work effectively in cross-functional technical groups/teamsThis is a highly cross-functional position, in addition to working with the VPI NPIT team on a regular basis, applicants will be expected to interact with Base Engine Team, Application Engineering, Service Engineering, Purchasing, Materials, Manufacturing, SQI, and Suppliers throughout product developmentSKILLS: LEADERSHIP:Take ownership of the development of your designated components by planning the entire validation schedule & proactively aligning resources to support that plan. Coordinate design, testing, & parts procurement activities with other departments & Cummins suppliers. Work cross-functionally by leveraging the expertise of these departments & suppliers.
