Chevron Shipping Company is accepting online applications for the position of Senior Marine Project Engineer located in Houston, Texas through October 1, 2008. Overview:Marine Project Engineer specializing in Marine Engineering and/or Naval Architecture and offshore project development experience. This is a shore-based engineering/project management and consulting position in Chevron Shipping Company’s Marine Services Group. Located in Houston, TX, the position is open to both Chevron employees and outside applicants. The position provides marine project engineering services for Chevron’s upstream offshore projects which incorporate floating systems or that have marine content. Floating systems include floating production, storage, and offloading vessels (FPSO’s), marine systems on non-ship shaped floating offshore facilities, Drill Ships, and shuttling, marine support, and transportation systems associated with or supporting offshore oil and gas production facilities. The position provides marine support to Chevron Upstream projects in various development phases including early concept development phase, front end engineering phase, to design and construction phase. The position provides hull structures and marine systems support for ship-shape offshore facilities such as FPSOs, and marine systems support to non-ship shaped offshore facilities such as semi-submersible platforms, SPARs and TLPs. The position requires occasional domestic and international travel, visits to ships and offshore production facilities, work with international development project teams and eligibility to remain and work indefinitely in the United States. The ability to accept temporary international assignments is highly desirable.Qualifications:Key Job Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:• Provide direct leadership and marine technical support to project teams through the phases of development of floating systems including early concept development, front end engineering phase, to design and construction phase. • Lead and coordinate Chevron Shipping technical support of upstream projects having multiple discipline engineers and subject matter experts assigned or utilized. • Provide design engineering services for FPSO new build construction, Drillship construction, and construction of marine systems for floating facilities, such as semi submersibles, SPARs, and TLPs. • Provide design engineering services for major conversions of marine facilities to floating oil and gas production systems such vessel conversions to FPSOs or conversions of semi submersible rigs to production facilities. • Provide design engineering services for new build construction or conversion for specialty floating production units such as Floating LNG processing systems (FLNG) and Floating Gas to Liquids processing systems (FGTL) and specialty marine systems such as Dynamic Positioning and offshore transfer and off loading systems.• Prepare technical reports, analysis, estimates and other documentation required to support upstream development projects. Manage, review and coordinate engineering work and report preparation by other Marine Services Group project engineers and subject matter experts assigned to the project.• Conduct feasibility studies in areas such as vessel performance, oil and gas transportation, tug and barge systems, floating systems facilities, FPSOs and new design concepts including economic evaluations and preparation of cost estimates.• In case of naval architecture education/experience, provide strong technical expertise in the area of naval architecture with empahsis on FPSO specifications, design and analysis. In case of marine engineer education, provide strong technical expertise in marine engineering with empahsis on marine systems specifications, design and analysis, including pumping and piping systems, marine machinery, propulsion systems, power generation and distribution, oil storage and handling, and other marine and vessel systems and equipment. • Provide expertise in Shipyard and Floating Systems contracting strategy development, bidding package development and knowledge of marine construction and conversion market conditions.• Investigate engineering problems with FPSO systems and marine systems of floating facilities, such as semi submersible, SPAR and TLP. Work with FPSO management team, manufacturers, regulatory community, and other industry experts to provide long term solutions and improvements.• Provide supervision, coaching, and support to other Marine and Hull and Systems Engineers to improve the organizational capacity and capabilities of the Chevron Shipping Marine Services Group. Required (Basic) Qualifications:• Bachelors Degree is required in Naval Architecture and/or Marine/Mechanical Engineering.• In ADDITION to academic preparation, the position requires 15 years experience in the above disciplines with 7 years direct experience in offshore project support and development.• Strong capabilities and working experience Marine Engineering with emphasis on marine systems specification, design and engineering analysis in Floating Systems Facilities such as semis, SPAR, and FPSO, and/or Naval Architecture and Marine Structural Engineering with strength in ship/FPSO structural specifications, design and analysis.• Experience in offshore projects including development phases from concept development, FEED engineering, detailed engineering, construction, installation, and commissioning. • Working experience and knowledge of marine practice, standards and regulations associated with FPSO/FSOs, Floating Systems (semi, SPAR, TLP), tank vessels, and gas carriers and Floating Gas units (such as FLNG).• Ability to work in team environment and contribute to team effectiveness.• Ability to communicate effectively, both written and spoken.• Ability to organize and lead both others in the organization and outside contractors.• Ability and experience in coordinating support to projects, both within the organization and outside.Preferred Qualifications:• Masters degree is preferred.• Experience with FPSO and Marine Systems contracting strategy development, bidding package development and knowledge of FPSO market conditions.Relocation Options:Relocation may be considered within Chevron parameters.International Considerations:Expatriate assignments will be considered.EOE M/F/D/V Learn more about Chevron Location:Houston, TX 77002 Status:Full Time, Employee Job Category:Engineering
