Overview:Senior Marine Engineer specializing in Marine Engineering and Marine Systems of vessels and floating systems.This is a shore-based engineering/project management and consulting position in Chevron Shipping Company’s Marine Services Group. Located in Houston, TX, the position is open to both Chevron employees and outside applicants. The position provides marine engineering services for Chevron’s upstream offshore projects which incorporate floating systems. Floating systems include floating production, storage, and offloading vessels (FPSO’s), Drill Ships, and shuttling, marine support, and transportation systems associated with or supporting offshore oil and gas production facilities. The position provides marine engineering technical support to Chevron Upstream projects in various development phases including early concept development phase, front end engineering phase, to design and construction phase. The position provides marine engineering support for ship-shape offshore facilities such as FPSOs, conversion of vessels to FPSOs and vessels associated with offshore development projects. The position also provides marine engineering support to offshore developments and facilities incorporating non-ship shaped floating systems. The position requires occasional domestic and international travel, visits to ships and offshore production facilities, work with international development project teams and eligibility to remain and work indefinitely in the United States.The ability to accept temporary international assignments is highly desirableQualifications:Key Job Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:• Provide marine engineering technical support to project teams through the phases of development of floating offshore facilities including early concept development, front end engineering phase, to design and construction, commissioning and installation phase. • Coordinate Chevron Shipping marine engineering technical support of upstream projects having multiple discipline engineers and subject matter experts assigned or utilized. • Provide design marine engineering services for FPSO new build construction, Drillship construction, and design and construction of marine vehicles and transportation systems and for offshore floating systems such as semi submersibles, SPARs, and TLPs. • Provide marine engineering services for major conversions of marine facilities to floating oil and gas production systems such vessel conversions to FPSOs or conversions of semi submersible rigs to production facilities. • Provide detailed marine engineering technical support for marine conversions including vessel inspection and condition assessment, evaluation of machinery, equipment, electrical and piping systems and other similar analysis for life extension and for determination of the extent of equipment, and piping system repairs or renewals. • Provide marine engineering services for new build construction or conversion for specialty floating production units such as Floating LNG processing systems (FLNG) and Floating Gas to Liquids processing systems (FGTL) and specialty marine systems such as Dynamic Positioning and offshore transfer and off loading systems.• Prepare technical reports, analysis, estimates and other documentation required to support upstream development projects. Review and coordinate marine engineering work and report preparation by other Marine Services Group project engineers and subject matter experts assigned to the project.• Have knowledge of and ability to review and analyze detailed marine engineering analytical work, heat balances, pipeline calculations, system analysis, heat transfer, pumping system design and other marine engineering analysis performed by contractors and classification societies. • Provide analysis of marine engineering performance for transportation systems, floating production facilities, FPSOs and new design concepts including economic evaluations and preparation of cost estimates.• Background in engineering education/experience, providing strong technical expertise in the area of marine engineering with empahsis on vessel and offshore marine system design. • Background expertise in Shipyard and Floating Systems contracting strategy development, bidding package development and knowledge of marine construction and conversion market conditions.• Investigate marine and systems engineering problems with FPSO systems and marine systems of floating facilities, such as semi submersible, SPAR and TLP. Work with FPSO management team, manufacturers, regulatory community, and other industry experts to provide long term solutions and improvements.• Provide technical coaching, and support to other Marine and Systems Engineers to improve the organizational capacity and capabilities of the Chevron Shipping Marine Services Group. • Conduct feasibility studies in areas such as vessel marine system performance, tanker transportation systems, tug and barge systems, floating systems facilities, FPSOs and new design concepts including economic evaluations and preparation of cost estimates.Required (Basic) Qualifications:• Bachelors Degree is required in Marine Engineering.• In addition to academic preparation, the position requires 10 years experience in the above disciplines with 5 years direct experience in offshore project support and development.• Strong capabilities and working experience Marine Engineering with emphasis on marine systems specification, design and engineering analysis in tankers and Floating Systems Facilities, oil and gas, such as semis, SPAR, and FPSO, and Marine Engineering experience with strength in ship/FPSO marine systems specifications, design and analysis.• Experience in major offshore projects including development phases from concept development, FEED engineering, Detailed engineering, construction, installation, and commissioning. • Working Experience and knowledge of Marine Systems and practice, standards, regulations and specification development for FPSO/FSOs, other offshore floating systems (semi, SPAR, and TLP), Floating Gas units (suchas FLNG).• Working experience and knowledge of marine standards and regulations with tank vessels and gas carriers.• Ability to work in team environment and contribute to team effectiveness.• Ability to communicate effectively, both written and spoken.• Ability to organize and lead both others in the organization and outside contractors.• Ability and experience in coordinating support to projects, both within the organization and outside.Preferred Qualifications:• Masters degree is preferred. • Experience with FPSO contracting strategy development, bidding package development and knowledge of FPSO market conditions.Relocation Options:Relocation may be considered within Chevron parameters.International Considerations:Expatriate assignments will be considered.EOE M/F/D/V Learn more about Chevron Location:Houston, TX 77002 Status:Full Time, Employee Job Category:Engineering
