Welding Manufacturing Engineer - Defense ATK has a challenging and highly visible opportunity for an experienced Welding Engineer at our Manufacturing Center of Excellence near Cumberland MD. As the onsite advisor to operators and engineering and professional staff, you will troubleshoot and improve current welding processes, perform failure investigations and develop new welding processes for the manufacture of rockets and steel rocket cases. You must be very well versed in the applications of Manual and Automated Welding Processes with a basic understanding of Metallurgy. Immediate priorities include evaluation, analysis and improvement of EB (Electron Beam), MIG (Metal Inert Gas) and TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding processes for Aluminum, Steel, Stainless Steel and Titanium and the improvement and maintenance of EB welder vacuum systems.This is a premier ATK location with extreme corporate visibility. Description -Troubleshoot, enhance and or create EB, MIG and TIG welding processes for Aluminum, Steel, Stainless Steel and Titanium encompassing joining of both similar and dissimilar materials -Analyze and advise on Heat Treatment processes of Materials -Create Preventative Maintenance Programs for welding equipment focusing on improvement and maintenance of EB welder vacuum systems which are critical to manufacturing productivity -Use NDT (Non-Destructive Test) to evaluate the quality of the welds relative to Magnetic Particle and Dye Penetrant -Perform Process Flow and Process Improvements including evaluation of new NDT methods such as Ultra-Sonic -Perform Failure Investigations associated with welding and conditioning processesRequirements -Bachelor of Science in Welding Engineering or Welding Engineering Technology -7 or more years industrial experience including: Electron Beam (EB) welding experience Manual and automated MIG and TIB (Metal Inert Gas and Tungsten Inert Gas) welding experience Hands on experience with different types of heat treating (annealing and tempering) processes Experience with Magnetic Particle and Dye Penetrant testing -Willingness to work on manufacturing floor as well as an office environment -Knowledge of ANSI Y 14.5 as it relates to welding -Experience meeting Production, Quality and Delivery requirements of customers -Ability to meet 10 percent Travel requirement -Ability to obtain Secret Clearance which requires US Citizenship as a pre-requisiteATK is on the move.
