PERFORMANCE SUMMARY:

This position is primarily responsible for providing leadership in maintaining quality standards within our fabricate-to-Order operations.  The successful candidate will be a team player and maintain supportive relationships with coworkers, clients, and contractors. The person will have the knowledge and skill to read and interpret drawings and specifications.  He/She will prepare daily records and data sheets that clearly track areas of compliance, non-compliance, and re-inspection status.  The person will train and mentor others as needed.  The individual may also provide quality inspections in other departments or perform other duties as assigned.

 

The successful candidate will be highly knowledgeable in safety and safe work practices.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:Inspection and testing of welded joints related to work in progress and of completed units for visible defects, correct dimensions, joint strength, bead formation, weld penetration, and conformance with layout, blueprint, and work order specifications

 Examines joint to detect flaws, such as cracks, cold weld, spatter, and undercuts, using flashlight and magnifying glass.

 Applies knowledge of welding principles and metallurgical properties.

Observes techniques and performance of welders in shop or at construction site.

Marks defective pieces and recommend scrapping or methods for reworking.

Records Inspection Data.

Will coordinate periodic finished good inspections with local laboratories for the inspection of hidden cracks and pits within welded joints, using magnaflux machine and ultrasonic testing equipment.

Will help develop and assure effective welding processes and techniques for departmental activities.

Establish and maintain a high level of product and technical knowledge.

Prepare written correspondence to external customers as necessary. 

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

5-7 year experience

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

High School diploma or equivalent

 

SKILLS REQUIRED:2-3 years experience of Welding inspection and testing of materials.  (American Welding Society – Certified Welding Inspector preferred.

Ø  If not a certified weld inspector, must be qualified to register for the CWI class to become a certified weld inspector

Qualified to perform on-site construction inspections independently

 Maintain required certifications for various disciplines as required (State DOT, AWS, etc.)

Excellent communication skills, including the ability to read and write both English and Spanish.

Candidates must be able to compose business correspondence and have strong grammar skills.

Basic mathematic skills

Computer experience including Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint and Word.

Ability to use and train people to use inspection, measuring and test equipment.

Ability to read blueprints.
