Thin Film Coating Manager

Axsys Technologies, a $200M public company, with multiple operating divisions located throughout the US, manufactures and sells a broad range of high performance electro-mechanical and electro-optical components and sub-assemblies to the aerospace, defense, electronics capital equipment, graphic arts and medical imaging markets. We presently have a need for an Machinist for our IR Systems division. This facility produces precision infrared and visible optical components for use in high-end military and commercial applications.

Basic Function:

 

Manages and coordinates all activities of the Coating Department.

 

Qualifications:

 

Must be computer literate.  Proficient with Microsoft Office to include: Word, Excel, Visio and Power Point.  Proficient with Gantt, and Value Stream Charts.

5-10 years experience in a high tech environment managing the operation and personnel.  Project management experience helpful.

 

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

 Meet with Director to establish department goals and delivery commitments.Manage the operation of the Coating departmentPlan and direct workflow and work force utilization. Establish work schedules, set priorities, and assign overtime as necessary to meet delivery schedule.Initiate and oversee, with the help of engineering, the preparation of manufacturing procedures for quality improvement and cost reduction.Assure that all test procedures are performed and followed as required.Make sure that all records are properly kept.Initiate all requisitions for purchasing material and tooling specific to the department.Work with engineering and quality assurance to assure compliance to ISO requirements.Work with engineering to correct problems.Coordinate workflow into Coating with other departments.Keep employees informed of company safety and work policies.  Enforce these policies as needed.Review employee performance and provide feedback on a regular basis.

 

Education, Training:

 

Bachelor Degree in Business Management, experience in managing in a high tech related field.

Proven experience in people management.  Management experience in an optical related field preferred.
