Supply LIne Engineer

GENERAL SUMMARY Under direction of Supply Line Manager, obtains materials from suppliers at the lowest cost consistently with considerations of quality, reliability of source and urgency of need; studies market trends, interviews vendors and recommends sources of supply, analyzes quotations received, negotiates final pricing, selects or recommends with whom orders are to be placed and schedules deliveries; follows up on orders to expedite delivery and shipment; obtains certifications of delivery and maintains necessary records and files for efficient operation. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLILITES Works closely with Product Development, Engineering and Operations to develop specific requirements to submit for quotation for new product introductions and to resolve material or process issues on existing products. Locates new sources when necessary, prepares requests for quotation, negotiates with vendors to get best price and awards contracts based on review of price, quality and service. Assess suppliers, position relative to risks; i.e. environmental, process and plant, business, internal planning and control. Develop contingency plans to prevent disruptions in manufacturing operations. Follows up on orders to ensure prompt delivery to support operations. Initiates and implements continuous process improvement activities designed to optimize process efficiency, reduce costs and lead-times by working closely with supplier engineering and across organizational boundaries. Facilitate Supplier Performance Review and Scorecard 3 times/year. Prepares and maintains procurement records to effectively negotiate annual contract pricing. SPECIFICATIONS REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to interpret drawings and technical specifications. Strong metal working knowledge in areas of castings and machining, electronics and motors. Must be a good communicator (verbal and written) and able to integrate with and work within a team environment. High degree of initiative and ownership, attention to detail, and the discipline to follow through on assigned tasks. Strong organizational, negotiation, and analytical problem solving skills. Ability to look at the bigger picture and trouble shoot process flow issues. Must be adaptable and capable of managing several priorities effectively. EXPERIENCE ON JOB TO ATTAIN ACCEPTABLE LEVEL OF PERFORMANCE Five to ten years experience in negotiations, formulating contracts, locating new sources and supporting manufacturing supply chain. PREFERRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES BASED ON PAST EXPERIENCE, BUT NOT REQUIRED Experience in Lean Manufacturing, JIT concepts, Kanban tools, MRP systems and Six Sigma.
