Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Plant Manager, performs a variety of duties within the Purchasing, Inventory and Logistics areas in accordance with company policies and procedures. Manages Purchasing, Inventory and Planning Departments and directs activities of team members as required. Responsible for purchasing and negotiating materials, equipment, and supplies from vendors. Responsible for the overall management of inventory levels, supplies and systems. Supports Production team to ensure product is available when required at the point of use. Responsible for determining and meeting overall department objectives and requirements.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Manages the Purchasing, Inventory and Planning Departments and directs the activities of Buyers, Planners, Inventory Manager and other team members as required on a daily basisResponsible for the development, documentation, and implementation of all policies, processes, systems and standard work for the procurement of raw materials, indirect materials, inventory control, transportation, logisticsDevelops both long and short-range strategies to accomplish corporate and business unit objectives, which may include cost/benefit analysis, risk assessment and other decision analysis techniquesDrive process improvement and standardization across the organization globally, from order placement to delivery and accounts payable, for all purchased goods and servicesResponsible for ensuring that all appropriate standard operating procedures and work instructions are in place and adhered toProcures goods and services, supports external proposals and/or negotiates purchase orders and acquisition contracts or licenses which are typically of high dollar value, risk and complexityInteracts and negotiates with supplier and customer counterparts and executive managementEvaluates supplier performance to ensure satisfaction and implements appropriate action as requiredMonitors industry to maintain awareness of current/future trends and leading edge practicesIndependently performs supplier evaluations and selections of high risk, dollar value and complexity for goods and servicesEnsure procurement information is maintained to enable appropriate use of the systems and solutions in place (online requisitions, CTP/MRP, etc.)Prepares information for government auditors, for audits on $1 million bids or moreCoordinate the production scheduling process with Planners, Production Managers and Plant Manager to meet the customers’ needs and expectations, while optimizing the use of plant resourcesImplements and prepares forecasts for purchased and manufactured items where appropriateManage inventory levels of materials to ensure an adequate supply for execution of the production schedules while optimizing inventory turns where appropriateManage the Receiving and Shipping processes to ensure on-time deliveries to both internal and external customersManage the cycle counting and physical inventory processes in order to maintain accurate inventory accounting
Education and Training:A minimum of a Bachelor's degree (preferably in Business Administration or related field), or equivalent related experience is requiredKnowledge of advanced business principles such as Purchasing, Materials Logistics, Business and Contracts Law, and/or Finance and Accounting (CPM, CPIM, etc.)
Skills and Experience:Minimum of 8 years of related work experienceKnowledge of policies, methods, and procedures of purchasing, materials management, etc.ERP experience and familiarity with logistics proceduresKnowledgeable in government contracts, FAR, and DFARElectronic (pcb, passive, active) and fabrication manufacturing (machining, sheet metal forming, etc) knowledge and exposure desiredExperience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook)Knowledgable in the preparation of reports, data, analysis and problem solvingKnowledge of vendors and sources of supplyOperation of a computer terminalInterpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesyExcellent written and verbal communication skillsFriendly and professional demeanor and appearance
