Supervisor, Chemical Recovery Boiler
NewPage™ Corporation is seeking a SUPERVISOR, CHEMICAL RECOVERY BOILER for our Rumford, Maine location. Headquartered in Miamisburg, Ohio, NewPage Corporation is the largest coated paper manufacturer in North America, based on production capacity with more than 4.5 billion in net sales. Our product portfolio is the broadest in North America and includes coated freesheet, coated groundwood, supercalendered and specialty papers. These papers are used for corporate annual reports, high-end advertising brochures, magazines, catalogs, books, coupons, inserts, packaging applications and direct mail advertising.
NewPage owns paper mills located in Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nova Scotia and Wisconsin. These mills have a total annual production capacity of approximately 5.5 million short tons of paper, including approximately 4.3 million short tons of coated paper, approximately 920,000 short tons of uncoated paper and approximately 300,000 short tons of specialty paper, as well as approximately 3.2 million short tons of pulp.
The Rumford Mill Utilities Department is comprised of a modern Cogen facility including two CFB boilers and one 100 MW turbine, two Power Boilers, one large Chemical Recovery Boiler, Multiple Effect Evaporator and Concentrator system, Lime Kiln/Causticizing process, Raw Water Treatment Plant, and an Effluent Treatment Plant.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Supervision of 25 hourly personnel within the Chemical Recovery Boiler Area.
· Primary responsibility for daily operation of Chemical Recovery Boiler, Evaporator Sets, and associated equipment.
· Shared responsibility for daily operation of Lime Kiln and Causticizing areas.
· Monitor and optimize Plant processes to maximize efficiency, reduce costs, operate within environmental limits, and meet the production requirements of the Pulp and Paper Mill.
· Prioritize Operational and Maintenance issues in the Area.
· Plan and Execute Maintenance Outages within the area with a high level of Safety and Productivity.
· Provide leadership in area safety activities and participate in mill wide safety efforts.
· Provide leadership and coaching to the hourly staff in the Lean Six Sigma effort.
· Recommend and Implement Best Practices to improve operations.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor’s degree in Marine, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering.State of Maine First or Second Class Stationary Steam Engineer’s license preferred. 3 – 7 years experience in Pulp and Paper Mill operations or Industrial Power Plant operations. Working knowledge of Chemical Recovery Boilers and Associated Equipment. Knowledge of Steam Turbines, CFB’s and Steam Distribution Systems are helpful. Decision making capabilities commensurate with the operation of large industrial boilers and related equipment.
SKILLS/COMPENTENCIES REQUIRED:Strong oral, written, listening, and communications skills, as well as initiative and the ability to delegate decision making and other responsibilities. The ability to efficiently focus attention on the details of process operations is necessary.Candidate must possess the ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel, both hourly and management.Candidate must model NewPage’s values and achieve results through safe work practices, cross-functional participation, manufacturing excellence, integrity and respect for others.
· Demonstrated leadership and enthusiasm for change.
· Strong Technical knowledge of all Power Plant equipment and processes.
· Flexibility in accepting special assignments and department wide responsibilities.
· Commitment to continuous improvement and “playing to win”.
· Work effectively with operation and maintenance teams.
· Well developed written and verbal communication skills.
· Demonstrated skills with using SAP, MS Office, PI-Process Book, and Distributed Control Systems.
· Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification required after employment. Commitment to achieving results through the LSS methodology.
