Today, CertainTeed is North America's leading brand of exterior and interior building products, including roofing, siding, windows, fence, decking, railing, trim, foundations, pipe, insulation, walls, ceilings and access covers.We have an immediate opening for a Senior Process Engineer in our Seattle gypsum wallboard plant.POSITION SUMMARY:Lead continuous improvement of the production process using Lean/Six Sigma tools (Kaizens, SPC, 5S, DOE, PFMEA, Fishbone) to identify areas of weakness. Lead focused Improvement projects that attack identified losses and quantify effectiveness. Engineer process changes, implement systems, and communicate changes effectively to all levels of the operation. ESSENTIAL DUTIES:•Lead Focus Improvement Pillar•Ensure safe working conditions are designed and standardized into any changes in working practices, new processes and plant developments.•Identify continuous improvement projects based on loss stratification and current production issues and propose any changes in working practices and/or control systems.•Provide detailed problem analysis for engineering solutions to process problems in conjunction with production management and operators •Support operator and professional maintenance and Quality Pillars by providing engineering/design solutions. •Give support to plant personnel by training/leading Focused Improvement Techniques.•Understand and participate in the updating of plant business plan.OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:•Provide general information and feedback within North American operations and to other group companies.•Contribute to Value Engineering Excercises by providing information to other CertainTeed Gypsum projects worldwide.•Provide support to plant operations by being available for weekend call on a rotating basis.MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and a minimum of 5 years experience, or equivalent training and experience, which will provide a professional knowledge of the scientific field of specialization pertinent to assigned engineering activities and a working knowledge of the applicable laws, regulations, practices, and procedures. Prefer experience from a similar process related 24/7 operation, preferably within the building products industries.PREFERRED OR DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:-Lean/Six Sigma certification and/or training in continuous improvement environment.-Highly motivated, open-minded individual.-Must be able to communicate well within all levels of the organization.FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY:Prepares capital cost estimates and sometimes manages expenditures within approved budgets for improvement initiatives in the plant. Participates in plant fiscal planning process.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:No direct reports, but fills in for Production Manager on occasion.WORKING CONDITIONS:Some travel may be required. Must wear personal safety equipment as mandated. Occasionally requires working long hours in a manufacturing plant environment, with exposure to chemicals, dust, loud noise and hot and cold temperatures. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Must be able to safely climb stairs to various levels within the plant, and access equipment in sometimes awkward or enclosed, tight spaces. Travel may require flying.EOE/M/F/D/V
