GENERAL SUMMARY: The Sr. Process Development Engineer is responsible for the identification, development, optimization and transfer of novel extrusion process technologies in support of PolyOne's Specialization and Operational Excellence strategic thrusts. This includes, but is not limited to, a customer base represented by Corporate Scientific Development, Product Development groups from the various business units and Manufacturing Operations from the various business units. Collaborations with these customer groups as well as with the equipment vendor, academic and consultant communities are critical to success in this position. A balance of experimental, analytical and theoretical work is to be expected.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Analyzes extrusion processing challenges and/or issues and formulates an actionable plan to address these in a safe, effective, economical and scaleable manner.
-Collaborates effectively with PolyOne's scientists and engineers as well as commercial and management teams in the process of identifying, planning and executing project work.
-Collaborates effectively with PolyOne personnel responsible for transferred technology.
-Participates in the planning and execution of experimental work including equipment set-up, specification of experimental protocols and hands-on experimental work.
-Analyses experimental data from the perspectives of accuracy/repeatability, business needs/timing as well as consistency with accepted mechanisms and theory.
-Documents results, analyses and recommendations in a complete and timely manner.
-Works in a safe manner and assures safety and good housekeeping in all aspects of project work.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
-Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Engineering, and Materials Engineering preferred. Will consider BS or MS in these areas in combination with relevant work experience.
-Polymer extrusion process engineering knowledge and experience, especially with respect to compounding and reactive extrusion operations is required.
-Familiarity with reactor engineering and polymerization processes preferred.
-Familiarity with secondary extrusion operations and the various molding operations preferred.
-Familiarity with process simulation preferred.
-Knowledge of polymer materials and influence of processing.
-Self-motivated, with the ability to set objectives and meet milestones for multiple projects.
-Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
-Good teamwork and collaboration skills.

Required Length & Type of Experience:
-A minimum of 5 years of experience in extrusion compounding and/or reactive extrusion process development. Related graduate R&D work may be considered as appropriate experience.
-Demonstrated ability to develop extrusion compounding and/or reactive extrusion processes that met the requirements of developed product processing and/or the demands manufacturing productivity.
