Sr. Packaging Engineer
Provides technical expertise and leadership to packaging projects, structures and materials used to Protect, store, ship and market Solo products. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Maintains in-depth relationships with current and potential packaging vendors to provide technical guidance in new equipment selection for plant troubleshooting and new projects. 2. Coordinates project review meetings with Marketing, Engineering, Manufacturing, Procurement and other members of cross-functional teams related to package selection and manufacturing feasibility. 3. Provides leadership and coordination for the development and implementation of new and improved packaging. 4. Establishes film, bag and carton specifications for new products, based in part on Solo’s manufacturing standards. Includes establishment of RMC’s and Graphic Request Forms. 5. Prepares and implements alternative packaging solutions for existing items. Includes cost savings, problem identification and problem resolution issue (warehouse failures, shipping failures, etc). 6. Coordinates activities relating to obtaining specifying and obtaining prototype packaging materials, including but not limited to: vendor negotiations, material availability, review of samples with appropriate parties and redirection based on results. 7. Works within the manufacturing plants/distribution centers as required to complete development, sampling and/or NPD activities relating to new packaging materials and/or products. 9. May manage Label system and/or database, as well as MS Access based Pkg Spec system. Other Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Provides start up assistance to plants with new or revised equipment/processes. 2. Assists in specification and implementation of packaging equipment including but not limited to tray set up, carton loading, sealing, etc. 3. Manages all aspects of a package design project including initial structure concept, costing, and assessment of structure on manufacturing, final specs, and implementation. Job Requirements: Job Requirements: BS degree in Packaging Engineering or related field. 5 plus years experience in package development. Continuing education required to stay abreast of new materials developments. Proficient in Microsoft Office. Proficient with TOPS packaging software. Good technical knowledge, communications skills and mechanical ability. Capable of working independently, managing multiple projects and interacting effectively with other corporate departments, manufacturing and material suppliers. Familiar with package design principles, materials and processes used at Solo. Capable of taking the lead on major package design projects. Willingness to travel as needed.
