The Danaher Sensors and Controls Group manufactures and markets products that sense, measure and control temperature, position, quantity, time, level and flow in the Process Automation and Factory Automation Markets. POSITION SUMMARY:
Create and evaluate product applications, analyze engineering problems and develop practical design approaches. Prepare technical proposals including material sources and costs.Complete testing, evaluation and documentation of design qualification and validation efforts.Provide manufacturing support relating to newly created and existing fluidic systems.
We are seeking an experienced mechanical or application engineer with experience designing and testing fluidic systems for the medical or related markets. The preferred candidate will have a BS engineering degree, (a MS engineering degree preferred), and will have 7+ years experience developing fluidic components, products and systems. Desired experience includes:Hydraulic (low pressure) experience, including pneumatics and fittingsKnowledge of C.F.D.Solid modeling experience – SolidworksManifold designTest Equipment design and fabricationPLC experience/Control LogicLiquid pumps (miniature)Diaphragm, piston or peristalticMiniature valveMachine validation and testing; (DVP&R, PPAP/FAI)Experience performing DFMEA’s
Ideal candidate would also have experience in ISO13485 quality systemsMedical industry Metal-forming (stamping, turning, CNC), plastic injection molding, metal casting, electrical circuits and controls, and manual and automated assembly (Lean Manufacturing experience preferred).
Candidate must have proven record of successful project management from conceptualization, proposal, design, prototype development and testing through to production launch. Superior communication skills, ability to travel (20%) and strong customer presence required.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design and develop new medical macro-fluidic systems or modify existing ones.
· Visit or communicate with customers and/or sales force to identify application requirements for existing products and new product design.
· Support manufacturing in the continuous improvement of existing fluidic systems.
· Accountable for all technical elements of assigned projects including integration of complicated components and assemblies, material selection, packaging, and Safety/ Agency and Standard Boards (UL, TUV, FDA, etc.) compliance.
· Analyze, evaluate and select from design execution alternatives. Prove designs selected fulfill specification objectives, and implement designs into production.
· Conduct design (DFMEA) and safety reviews as needed.
· Create, check and approve project documentation including Solidworks Models, Drawings, Engineering Change Requests and Bills of Material.
· Utilize appropriate design development tools and techniques such as Value and Failure Mode and Effects Analyses, Design of Experiments, Statistical Process Control, Design for Manufacture, Assembly and Inspection, Computer Aided Engineering Analysis and 3D Design Tools.
· Work with development and manufacturing engineering, as well as other internal/external customers, to interpret customer specifications and develop detailed test plans and test equipment definition.
· Provide a detailed project plan including schedule and costs.
· Equipment Validation using gauge R&R and other Measurement Systems Analysis techniques.
Education, Skills, and Experience Required:
· BSME and 7-10 years experience in designing medical macro-fluidic systems. Masters preferred.
· Construction, performance and design of medical fluidic systems for the medical markets.
· Manufacturing assembly and fabrication processes (die castings, castings, plastic molded parts, sheet metal stampings, screw machine parts, sheet bending, and cabinet fabrication).
· Computer Aided Drafting and Design, Rapid Prototyping and Geometric Tolerancing. Computer Simulation tools experience preferred. (Solidworks a plus)
· Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, Design for Assembly, DOE, Statistics and Process Control with applied experience desirable.
· PLC and control logic experience.
· Experience responding to customer specific requests for design.
· Experience with external partners and overseas sourcing preferred.
· An understanding of lean manufacturing concepts preferred.
· Excellent communication, problem solving and cross-functional project management skills.
