Southern Pine Lumber Buyer

Rocky Top Building Products, a distributor of pressure treated lumber and building products, corporate headquarters in Rocky Mount, VA, seeks an individual with Southern Pine Lumber purchasing experience for our manufacturing and distribution locations. This person would work very closely with the sales force to help ensure their needs and those of our customers, are met.  This position will be based in Salisbury, NC. or Roanoke, VA.

 

Duties:

·         Buy lumber and building products for 3 Northeast manufacturing and distribution locations

·         Extensive knowledge of southern yellow pine lumber market

·         Locate and establish new vendor relationships

·         Negotiates cost of each lumber purchase

·         Develop purchasing opportunities with existing and new vendors

·         Determines appropriate cost of products based on market conditions, sales, and product availability

·         Keeps records of trends, prices, top selling items, history, and prices

·         Monitor and maintain inventory levels on a daily bases

·         Develop new product lines/expand existing product lines

·         Coordinate with company sales force 

·         Contact customers to assess their untreated lumber needs

·         Handles late shipments by canceling, renegotiation, or pushing for faster delivery

·         Resolves interrelated issues such as tally, grade etc… 

·         Researches relevant information to aid in decision-making

 

Requirements:

·         Experienced Southern Yellow Pine Buyer

·         Have a working knowledge of the Southern Pine Lumber market, volatility and trends

·         Have established relationships with Southern Pine Mills 

·         Willing to Relocate

·         Must be able to work in a fast paced environment

·         Energetic

·         Ability to build and maintain relationships with vendors

·         Excellent communication and math skills

·         Must have computer skills including Microsoft word and excel

·         Flexible hours
