DEPARTMENT: Engineering
REPORTS TO: Manager Software & Automation / Product Group Manager

MAJOR PURPOSE OF POSITION

Modify existing programmable logic and displays for mining machinery. Support formal software engineering principles for the development of real-time control systems.

JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Modify and update existing PLC logic and HMI applications for sold machinery, generating efficient control and display software for all product lines. Understand machine application concepts and implement proper software control solutions.

2. Ensure usability of HMI interface and verify its intuitive use to the operator/user.

3. Check software designs to ascertain functionality and reliability.

4. Support standardization objectives by ensuring all software designs meet portability and expandability criteria across all product lines.

5. Implement validation methods to determine fault tolerance and predictability of erroneous or corrupt input data.

6. Assist in the software development processes for prototype logic and program code for implementation across several operating systems.

7. Work with product engineering staff to test various interfaces between hardware and software platforms to verify performance of overall system.

8. Provide on-site support to field service engineers during the commissioning phase of the project.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

An Associates degree in Electromechanical Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Automated Systems Technology or equivalent is required. Applicants with 3 to 5 years of PLC and HMI programming experience and who have served an Electrical or Machine repair Apprenticeships will also be considered.

LENGTH AND TYPE OF EXPERIENCE

Approximately three to eight years experience in learning and demonstrating PLC logic and HMI development skills for large industrial equipment.
