In 2006 the group had consolidated sales approaching $4 billion.General Function:To directly supervise the hourly employees assigned to the production areas of the plant assuring they work in a safe and efficient manner producing high quality products in accordance with the production schedule. The #1 priority of the job is to provide a safe environment for our employees to work. The shift manager is directly responsible for insuring that safe work practices are enforced, the proper tools are available and the employees are accountable for individual safety on their assigned shift. When not reducing safety risks in the facility, the shift manager must utilize management skills and team-building methods that maximize product quality and production of a low cost product to our customer, in a timely manner. Duties / Responsibilities• Ensures employees have received appropriate safety training and conform to all safety policies, rules and regulations, rewarding positive performance and challenging behavior as it relates to working unsafely.• Coordinate and administer plant safety program including enforcing safety rules; conducting safety meetings, developing of shift safety teams and safety captains, performing and coaching good safety practices and auditing, and conducting investigations related to accidents, incidents and near misses.• Will maintain work place organization and ensure good housekeeping practices (thru 5S) by holding employees accountable for assigned work areas• Ensure that all necessary manufacturing and production measures are taken to produce a quality product• Directly supervise the hourly employees assigned to the production areas of the plant in compliance with the labor agreement. Communicates performance expectations, measuring and assessing employee performance against key performance indicators, coaching and developing employee capabilities• Identifies opportunities and implements corrective actions to improve safety, quality, productivity, labor and spending performance, through development of teams, tracking performance, data interpretation and other problem solving tools.• Manages utilization of equipment, personnel and processes to maximize efficiency and output• Encourages open and honest communication, encouraging employee involvement in achieving shared objectives towards Mountaintops goals and values. Develops pride in the organization and respect for fellow employees• Champions employee training, work place organization and problem resolution • Complete daily production and material usage reports. Update and maintain time and attendance and payroll data and administer coaching, training, group expectations or discipline as needed.• Responsible for team building, employee development and mentoring a self-directed workforce thru facilitation of shift meetings, follow-up of action plans, one-on-one conversations, driving course of direction, auditing floor activities, and insuring operational consistency and departmental excellence.Job Requirements:• Bachelor’s degree in technical field required or equivalent work experience• Minimum of 3 to 5 years prior experience supervising employees in a unionized continuous process manufacturing environment• Strong communication, leadership, coaching, and interpersonal skills• Current computer skills, both in PC and control systems, including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint• Ability to work on rotating shifts (4 week rotation periods)• Skills to tactfully deal with a diverse group of people and must be technically proficient.• The employee must be able to concentrate and think clearly in an always changing environment, while driving problem resolution and be able to multi-task.• In addition, the employee must have strong managerial skills to motivate and direct a large group of employees. • The employee must be a leader, self motivated and self directed, with the ability to build teams. • Honesty, integrity, analytical abilities and confidentiality are major requirement for this position, along with the ability to prioritize work load.
