SUMMARY

 

Fabricate metal containers from sheet stock to be filled with alloy powders and welded closed for production processing.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):

 Fabricate square and rectangular metal containers using hand tools and equipment to specified dimensions.Fabricate round and tubular metal containers using hand tools and equipment to specified dimensions.TIG weld materials including but not limited to carbon steel, stainless steel and titanium. Welds need to be of such quality as to withstand 10-4 torr vacuum and pressures exceeding 30,000 psi.Operate standard shop equipment including power shear, press brake, roll bender, grinders, welders, ovens and hi-vacuum pump stations.

· Performs daily functions using computer systems to account for materials and labor time, and document quality issues.

· Reads and interprets work orders, instructions, engineering specifications and control charts in order to determine work assignments and process specifications.

· May select and transport material to work area manually or using hoists or devices.

· Sorts metal and parts, scrap, samples and other materials according to inventory controls.

· Authority to stop any process in question, to eliminate production of defective product or product not in conformance with customer requirements.

· Monitors equipment operation to detect deviations from standards. May clean or lubricate equipment and replace parts as required. Visually examines material components and equipment for cracks and overall appearance.

· Verifies conformance, using SPC applications, of finished blends to specifications and inputs data into computer database.

· Maintains a clean and safe work environment by following established procedures and processes.

· Identifies containers per internal tracking procedures.

· Performs physical inventory and cycle counts.Conducts and performs other duties as assigned by the shift supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS

Advancement is achievable in correlation to how versatile the operator is through specialization.  EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

 



Welder / Fabricator II:



High School Diploma or GED required; reading and math skills required. Minimum of 5 years experience fabricating / welding standard materials and exotic alloys; and/or completion of technical certification and a minimum of 3 years of experience fabricating / welding.  Basic computer skills required (MS Office). Works under minimal supervision, and may mentor and/or direct other operators.

 LANGUAGE SKILLS

 

Ability to read, analyze and interpret mechanical drawings and prints. Ability to respond to common inquiries from both internal / external customers and vendors. 

 MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

 

Ability to calculate engineering data including proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as trigonometry, geometry and algebra.

 REASONING ABILITY

 

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.

 PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to reach with hands and arms and talk and hear. The incumbent frequently is required to walk, sit and use hands to finger, handle or feel. The incumbent is occasionally required to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The incumbent must occasionally lift up to 75 pounds and/or move up to 150 pounds. WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

While performing the duties of this position the incumbent is exposed to moving mechanical parts and machinery. The noise level in the work environment varies from quiet to high (where hearing protection is required). The incumbent will also be exposed to intense light that requires welding eye protection.
