Senior Refrigeration Engineer

Royal Vendors, Inc. is searching for a qualified “Senior Refrigeration Engineer”. All potential candidates should review the provided condensed job description. Only those who meet at least the minimum requirements will be given further consideration for the position.

 

Required Education:

A BSME with an emphasis on the thermal and refrigeration system sciences is required. Position also requires a solid understanding of power electricity practice and theory along with a working knowledge of electrical installation/appliance codes. Electrical Codes must include North America and the rest of the world with particular emphasis on the European Union and IEC practice.

A minimum of tens years professional experience working at a refrigeration system design level is a minimum requirement.



 

Thermal sciences:

Candidate must demonstrate skills related to the design, construction and processes needed to effect environmentally controlled appliances used for thermal processing of a product. These include:

1.  The ability to design an effective closed cycle refrigeration system using best practice to achieve long term reliability in a zero wear environment while at the same time providing economical production cost and meeting regulatory requirements. This includes but is not limited to vapor compression refrigeration cycles, heat exchangers, fluid-flow and best design practices.

2.  The ability to specify process requirements for the mass manufacture of small refrigeration systems

3.  The ability to analyze and predict the thermal behavior of the controlled volume to include all heat transfer mechanisms, fluid flows needed to prevent excessive energy use or high manufacturing cost by the finished product and control for the thermal processing required by the end user.

 

Safety compliance:

1.  Candidate must have the skills needed to perform a basic safety analysis of a proposed design or product design modification. (A product must not be submitted to a Third Party that has not already been proven to comply with Standards by local test and inspection.)

2.  Candidate must have the ability to understand Third Party safety codes and standards such as UL, CSA and IEC and translate these into Third Party safety certifications by active cooperation with the Third Party agency including in-house performance of the required product testing.

 

Customer compliance:

1.  Candidate must have the ability to understand and test to the letter of customer requirements with respect to product thermal performance.

2.  Candidate must have the ability to create reports suitable for review and submittal to customer and must actively follow the product through customer lab when needed.

 

Regulatory compliance:

As a manufacturer, there are various regulatory requirements from government agencies in each country of product sale. Additionally, there are some regulations imposed by customers who unilaterally respond to various NGO’s (e.g. TCCC and the no HCFC requirement). Candidate must assure compliance with all pertinent government regulations such as those imposed by:

1.  USA OSHA (Safety compliance)

2.  USA EPA (Energy Star, Prohibition of certain materials, Refrigerant venting)

3.  USA DOE (Energy Efficiency regulation of 2005)

4.  USA NEC (National Electrical Code)

5.  California Energy Commission a.k.a. CEC (Energy Efficiency, prohibition of certain materials)

6.  Canada (Safety, Energy Efficiency)

7.  European Union a.k.a. EU (ROHS, Machinery and other Safety Directives, Energy Efficiency -pending)

8.  All other foreign trading partners

 

Third Party Standards:

Royal is regulated by a significant number of entities. Standards development is quite often specific to Royal’s product line.

The candidate must become active in various third party standards development groups such as ASHRAE, UL, CSA, CEC, DOE, EPA and CANENA with the intent to provide intelligent guidance on such standards development. Often, NGO’s, users and Government interests are not aligned with best practice and candidate must have the ability to be strong leading voice during the standards development.

 

Legal Issues:

Candidate must have the ability to understand patent language as needed to coordinate new work with Patent attorneys.

 

Environmental Lab management:

The primary tool used in the execution of this position is the environmental lab facility. Position requires that this tool be used effectively to verify tentative designs and prove safety and third party compliance.



 

Warranty, field issues and sales assistance:

1.  Track refrigeration long-term reliability and performance to expose problems and predict warranty costs using statistical methods.

2.  Give ongoing advice to customers, sales people fellow employees and management on a wide variety of issues.
