Senior Garment Designer
MSA (Mine Safety Appliances Company) is the global leader in the development, manufacture, and supply of sophisticated safety products, instruments, and services that protect people’s health, safety, and the environment. Our company has an immediate need for a Senior Garment Designer at our St. Pauls, NC facility.
Primary responsibility is to design and document new products that meet or exceed customer requirements. Specific responsibilities include:
· Conceive and document concepts for tactical and concealable ballistic vests.
· Develop garment patterns.
· Participate in the development of prototypes for new product concepts.
· Create work instructions and drawings to enable the building of prototypes.
· Continually improve MSA sizing standard to maximize fit and comfort and improve customer satisfaction.
· Work in conjunction with manufacturing to ensure product is produced in accordance with design requirements.
· Assist in material selection and evaluation.
Special knowledge, skills and ability requirements:
· Proficient in use of Industrial Sewing Equipment.
· Expertise in handling clothing /design software, e.g. Optitex, Electra, Gerber, etc.
· Draping experience along with creating hard patterns (not computer developed) and with considerable grading expertise and experience.
· Administratively capable of developing Bills of Material, operational descriptions and listings, and cost estimating as well as good writing skills.
· Experience in scheduling and managing people.
· Excellent communications, presentation, writing, creative, planning and organizational skills.
· The ability to work effectively with Sales, Operations, Engineering, distributors and end-users.
Preferred:
· Business and technical knowledge of ballistic products.
Education and experience requirements:
· Associates Degree in Design.
· Minimum of five years relevant work experience in an industrial design environment
Preferred:
· Bachelors Degree in Design
· Five years experience in producing ballistics personal protective equipment.
