Introduction:
We are seeking candidates for the position of Senior Design Engineer to be located in our U.S. headquarters in Bridgeport. A fast growing, privately-held family of companies, the Unger Companies had their start in Germany as a specialized manufacturer of window cleaning tools. The Companies have become a leading global manufacturer of professional and retail cleaning and maintenance tools with Fortune 100 customers. Unger products are sold in more than 80 countries. Unger has operations in the United States, Germany, and India.
The Senior Design Engineer will report to the Vice President, Research & Development. S/he will work closely with our Marketing, Operations, and Quality staff, plus suppliers, to design and manage the development of new products and improvements to existing products from conception to production.
S/he will create ideas, concepts and designs based on customer needs and marketing input utilizing SolidWorks. The Senior Design Engineer will perform engineering analyses, including FEA and product testing, to ensure products meet all requirements. S/he will develop test plans and manage all technical aspects of projects including schedules, costs, and capital spending.
An attractive compensation package consisting of base salary, bonus and excellent benefits will be offered. We prefer local candidates, but will consider relocation of candidates within the northeastern United States.
Key Qualifications:
We require a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
A minimum of five years’ experience designing and developing products from conception through to commercialization are required.
At least three years’ experience as part of a cross-functional (marketing, operations, quality assurance, and engineering) teams are required.Expert-level knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes including injection molding, extrusions, rolling forming, and assembly operations is required.Candidates must demonstrate the ability to create new products, generate ideas, and innovate.
Expert-level skills in 3D modeling and drawing designs are required. SolidWorks experience is preferred.
Project management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize projects and stay organized must be demonstrated.
The capability to perform engineering analyses, including tolerance analysis, is required. Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is a plus.
Experience utilizing a “stage gate” product development process is preferred.
Prior experience reviewing and filing patents is preferred.
A Master’s degree in engineering or management is a plus.
Additional Qualifications:
Good written and oral communications skills are required
Individuals who fit well into an entrepreneurial, nimble organization and are accustomed to partnering with design engineers.
Candidates who are comfortable and function well within an organization which is owned and managed by the family which founded it.
Individuals, who have global perspectives and experience, including outsourcing experience in China or India, would be desirable.
Strong Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project and Outlook skills are required.
