SENIOR BUYER/COMMODITY MANAGER

 

1. POSITION BASIC PURPOSE

Responsible for all aspects of supplier management for suppliers of metal and plastic machining services, as well as distribution and custom hardware, molded rubber and die cut services.  Also includes castings and forgings and machined assemblies, including purchased heat sink assemblies.



 

2. CONTEXT OF THE POSITION AND MAJOR CHALLENGES

·  Manage existing suppliers to ensure compliance with all business requirements.

·  Identify and qualify new sources of supply based upon capabilities, competitiveness and overall value to Ferraz Shawmut, Inc., including low cost region suppliers.

·  Work closely with Ferraz Shawmut, Inc. engineering, quality and production staff.

·  Utilize all available tools, including e-sourcing platform, to achieve position objectives.

·  Review MRP release advice and pull signals on a timely basis and execute orders and changes as appropriate.

·  Monitor supplier performance, and work with supplier corrective action plans where noncompliance issues occur.

·  Perform annual off-site quality audits.

·  Maintain a competitive purchasing environment.

· Coordinate all Ferraz Shawmut facility locations by pooling and consolidating similar commodities and requirements.



3. DIMENSIONS OF THE POSITION

·  Maintain good and responsible supplier relations.

·  Adjust and settle discrepancies in vendor quality count or price.

·  Facilitate and maintain the continued operations of JIT.

·  Issuance and control of Purchase Order commitment, expediting and follow-up.

·  Ongoing evaluation and monitoring of new sources, products or services.

·  Interface with other locations on ISO.

·  Interface with other locations on product moves and transfers.

·  Interface with other locations on practices and procedures.

 

4. MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES

Ensure uninterrupted supply of quality materials.

Identify and implement cost reduction opportunities, with current and new suppliers.

Quote and negotiate sourcing agreements to ensure the best value for the company.

Work closely with quality to ensure compliance to specifications.

Negotiate favorable payment terms with suppliers, in accordance with department objectives.

Negotiate Consignment Material agreements with suppliers where appropriate.

Maintain most competitive supplier base, monitoring capabilities, to ensure maximum flexibility to meet business needs.

Using data from KanBan system, JD Edwards, and other sources of data where appropriate.

Days Payable Outstanding (Payment Terms)

7. POSITION REQUIREMENTS (KNOWLEDGE, COMPETENCIES AND ABILITIES)

·  MBA preferred, BS/BA minimum with min 10 years direct experience

·  Thorough knowledge of machine shop practices

·  Direct experience implementing progressive inventory management techniques

·  Strong Negotiation Skills

·  Strong Contract Management Skills

·  Excellent Communications Skills

·  Ability to work independently 

·  Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously

·  Detailed understanding of MRP/ERP

·  Travel up to 25%
