Sales/Use and Property Tax Specialist

We have an immediate opening in our corporate headquarters for a Sales/Use and Property Tax Specialist in our Tax Department. 

 

Position Summary:  The Sales/Use & Property Tax Specialist will be responsible for the filing of all sales/use & property tax returns, coordinating audits, maintaining tax accounts and tax fixed asset ledgers, and researching tax issues.  This position receives direction from the Senior Tax Manager. 

 

Description of Responsibilities:Reviews all sales/use and property tax return filings.Reviews monthly accrual entries for sales/use and property tax liabilities and reconciles GL accounts.Assists the Senior Tax Manager on all government tax inquires and audits.Assists the Senior Tax Manager in developing plans to correct and weakness in the compliance process or procedures.Oversees transaction tax system to ensure compliance with the proper tax rates in the various jurisdictions.Advises purchasing agents and business analyst on relevant sales and use tax rules and issues.Develops & implements policies and procedures to coordinate the technology and accounting functions in order to gather information needed to prepare and file sales/use and property tax returns.Manages the retention and preparation of tax records, tax returns, and other required reports.Coordinates w/ Financial Accounting to maintain tax fixed asset ledgers.Work as a team member on identified special projects.  Ensures compliance with and adheres to all tax laws.Researches and analyzes new tax laws and proposed legislation

Qualifications:Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance.  CPA and/or advanced degree a plus.>5 years experience in company tax function or in a public accounting firm’s tax department. Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively relate to internal and external personnel and government representatives.Insight, judgment and initiative to recognize areas for improvement and implement changes.Ability to work independently and be deadline focused.State income/franchise tax experience a plus.Less than 5% travel required.
