Research and Development Process Engineer

PPG Industries, an $15 billion leading producer of coatings, glass, chemicals, and fiberglass is seeking talented people for a Research and Development Process Engineer position within the Glass R/D Process Control department at the Harmarville, PA Glass Technology Center.
The Glass Technology Center is located 15 miles from downtown Pittsburgh. The regional area in which Pittsburgh is located, with its four surrounding counties, is ranked 19th in size in the country with a population of approximately 2.3 million people It is home to major sports teams, universities, cultural activities; and also offers exceptional outdoor recreation in all seasons. Successful candidates will be responsible for conception and execution of numerical and physical experimentation necessary to improve existing processes and develop new methods of manufacture. The selected individual will solve problems through the application of knowledge of non-linear mechanics, rheology, and radiation heat transfer. The incumbent may initiate and recommend major projects as well as conceive and develop theories through application of advanced specialized scientific knowledge. Candidates must be able to search and interpret literature as well as be cognizant of competitor technology and intellectual property. A proven ability to lead multiple projects and project teams including directly supervising work of other associates is also necessary. Demonstrated competence with commercial engineering analysis tools (finite element, finite volume computation) and extensive knowledge of processing of engineering materials are essential. Experience in glass fabrication will be highly desirable and a working knowledge of industrial equipment and process control is of interest. A Ph.D. degree in related fields of engineering or science, such as mechanical engineering, is required. Interested individuals with industrial experience are particularly encouraged to apply.
