Job Title: Research Engineer

Location: Corning, NY 14831

 

Scope of Position:

Provide chemical and reaction engineering modeling expertise to solve a variety of technical challenges in research, development, engineering and manufacturing programs.  Assignments may include, but are not limited to, problem solving in projects related to materials based products and their applications, manufacturing processes and process equipment.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

1. Technical problem solving

2. Development of effective reaction engineering approaches to solve problems

3. Use reaction engineering to derive insightful recommendations through collaborations with experimenters and others

4. Work independently and as part of teams to do the above

5. Communicate findings and facilitate their implementation

6. Technical/Project leadership if candidate possesses appropriate skills

 

Travel Requirements:

Travel requirements vary depending on project(s).  Rough estimate is trips of a few days within the U.S. several times a year, and occasional international trips

 

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

Flex time, with core hours of 9-3, occasional evening/weekend hours as needed

 

Required Education:

1. PhD in ChE (or MS plus 2 years experience) with strong computer modeling background

2. Applied research and/or development experience

 

Required Years and Area of Experience:

2 years experience  with strong computer modeling background

 

Required Skills:

1. Broad background and research experience in chemical reaction engineering and catalysis

2. Computational skill including working knowledge of relevant commercial software (e.g., FLUENT, COMSOL, POLYFLOW) and programming experience

3. Experience addressing difficult multi-disciplinary problems using the tools/knowledge listed above

4. Excellent communications and experience in team environments

5. Effective oral and written communication skills

6. Excellent cross-functional team skills.

7. Technical flexibility and curiosity

8. Capability to manage multiple priorities and deliver to each area of work

9. Ability to work independently, without detailed close day-to-day direction

 

Desired Skills:

1. Experience in materials science and materials processing

2. Working knowledge of applied quantum chemistry and/or molecular dynamics methods

3. Experience in detailed kinetics studies

4. DOE and optimization studies

5. Experience working in an industrial R&D environment

6. Manufacturing experience
