SP Newsprint Company, LLC is a newsprint manufacturing company with locations in Oregon and Georgia with total newsprint production of over one million tons per year. We have 600 employees and our products are made from over 75% recycled fiber. Our parent company, White Birch, has four other newsprint mills which make us the second largest newsprint company in North America. Key to SP Newsprint’s success is a constant and passionate focus on improving the competitiveness of each mill through cost reduction, increased efficiency and performance excellence.
Job Description:
We are looking for a dynamic Master Black Belt with a proven ability to implement a lean culture. We expect this candidate to use Lean-Six Sigma strategies to: lead reliability initiatives, support mill cost reduction efforts, implement process improvement projects, coach our workforce in continuous improvement, and ultimately deliver results. This is an exceptional opportunity to work directly with the leadership teams of our two mills to deliver a Lean transformation. This position will be based in either Dublin, Georgia or Newberg, Oregon and travel is required between the mills.

Responsibilities include:
• Help develop a culture of data based decision making in the company.
• Collaborate with mill leadership to identify projects and develop strategies that effectively utilize the Lean-Six Sigma Methodology and maximize the effectiveness of available resources.
• Drive and sustain results focused on improving the bottom line.
• Identify, communicate and quickly leverage best practices across the organization.
• Help to build and teach the lean manufacturing curriculum.
• Identify, deploy and leverage useful, robust statistical approaches and tools not currently in use.
Requirements include:
• Bachelors degree in Engineering (ME, EE, ChemE, MET, IE, Packaging or Paper Science/Engineering). Masters preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills.
• Substantial experience in process reengineering.
• Certified Black Belt with a demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams that drive business results and make data-based decisions using the Lean/Six Sigma Methodology
• High level of integrity and professionalism that commands respect from management, peers and direct reports
• Alignment with SP Newsprint values of employee health and safety, entrepreneurial spirit, and “thinking outside the box”.
• Demonstrates a passion and sense of urgency for executing performance improvement projects and leveraging best practices across the organization
• Demonstrated leader who can effectively challenge, influence and build consensus at all levels of the organization from the plant floor to the board room.
• Technical expert in the Lean-Six Sigma methodology and associated statistical tools
• Demonstrated coaching ability to use, teach and coach others on statistical, analytical, facilitation and change acceleration tools
