R&D Assistant Manager

The R&D Assistant Manager will be responsible for department supervision, maintenance and improvement as well as enforcement of departmental operating procedures.  This responsibility ensures the safety of unit colleagues and training of research personnel.  Potential candidates must have the ability to lead technician teams, inspire, build and support cross-functional teams as well as effectively manage multiple projects in a research and pilot development environment.  The candidate must also work in concert with science and engineering staff ensuring technicians’ complete assigned tasks.

 

Primary Duties: Manage daily department activities as scheduled through management and staff engineers. Track technician work schedules, overtime, sick days and vacations. Ensure technician compliance with departmental procedures and protocols are followed. Lead independent projects developing new materials and solution for the company. Maintain project schedules and ensure projects are completed in timely manner. Hands-on involvement in product developments and continuous improvements. Work in conjunction with staff scientists, engineers and analytical lab. Maintain accurate project records in compliance with departmental policy. Ensure technician compliance with the Oracle system is maintained. Motivation of technical team while demonstrating strong leadership, team building and positive interpersonal relations. Prioritize projects for technicians daily with direction as needed. Identify potential problems and develop timely solutions using creative problem solving skills and communicates to management as needed. Address Company policy violations. Maintain a clean, organized and safe work environment at all times. Coordinate and lead troubleshooting of machines when problems arise . Ensures safety procedures and OSHA guidelines are met while leading this by example.

 



Experience Required: 5 years minimum experience in a lead Research and Development role

  

Education Requirements: MS or PhD with 10 years related experience

 

 

Specific Skills & Experience: Hands on experience with extrusion related product development Must have strong project management skills in order to define, develop, schedule, and lead research projects on time and within a reasonable rate of return Strong time management and organization skills Strong process documentation skills Process optimization experience Must be able to form and mentor strong dynamic teams Strong troubleshooting skills Excellent written and oral communication skills Strong computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, data collection and analysis. Must function well within a team oriented environment Detail and results oriented
